Pace is just an atrocious football player at this point in his career. I can't see any way he is on the Jets next year unless it involves him taking a HUGE pay cut and a HUGE decrease in playing time. His days as a starter are numbered.
Among many other things, that lame ass attempt to leg-tackle Zach Miller in the flat & get a first down was just brutal.
He's been a solid player for the Jets. Thank you. It's time to get younger there and he'd head straight for Buffalo (you know it, I know it, everyone knows it) where Rex will make sure he gets lotsa lotsa lotsa lotsa lotsa playing time. The idea of Buffalo starting a 35 years old LB isn't frightening at all to me. It could be a win-win for the Jets.
It sounds good, and dandy, but we don't exactly have much depth at that position, and he will probably end up playing more rotational than full time starter imo. I also am guessing it'll be his final season. OLB has to be an area we focus on next off-season.
Eh I'm not seeing the point in holding on to a 35 years old LB while going to a new defense. Not even for depth. The Jets have plenty of veteran leadership on the D Harris, Cromartie, Wilkerson no problem there. Go with Mauldin. If Pace hits the wall in 2015 let him hit it in Buffalo. He'd be stick-a-fork-in-him-he's-done done Rex would still give him plenty of playing time. LOL Sounds like a win-win to me.
You can't just anoint Mauldin the starter. He was a 3rd round pick. Hell he could bust Vernon style for all we know at this point.
We just paid him and Babin like 150k bonuses each so my guess is they won't be cut until final round, and only if someone steps up
He just got paid his bonuses or whatever he's guaranteed to be here throughout training camp. Babin/Pace rotating is pretty much our only option until our rookie learns the ropes which is why a guy like Pace is needed. Coples stepping up will also make it easier for whoever plays the opposite side.
if they wanted Pace gone before camp they never would have exercised his option. as is he's handy to have going into training camp, and can serve as an example for how to conduct ones self for Mauldin. he's our strong side linebacker again for on more year if or until his decided heir apparent Mauldin shows he's got the position down. the only reason to toss him is if Mauldin and Reilly show they're more than ready to hold that side down.
Yes it is, but it's not like we have a good younger player to replace him with. So no, it's not a win-win.
