Dammit, Antonio Allen went down non contact and can't put any weight on his leg. I like that kid. With all the problems we've had covering tight ends I wanted to use him in a man assignment role on them like in 2013 when he was serviceable one on one against Gronk, Graham and Tony Gonzalez. Bowles uses a lot of 3 safety looks too so he figured to get playing time. Would be a bad loss, hope he's okay.
I am encouraged by the red zone offense, however. Inability to convert trips into 7 points was a huge reason why they lost so many close games so hearing that they've been able to punch the ball in against a good short space defense is a promising sign.
Looked like Allen was hurt pre-snap, with no contact. Maybe I spoke too soon. Defense wins the end of practice
Up and down for Fitzpatrick today. Geno solid. Smart decisions. Lots of short stuff...screens and check downs.
Hopefully it's not torn or anything, that would easily take him out the entire year. A torn achilles usually is pretty easy to spot so I doubt it's that serious. They would have carted him off if he tore something.
Fwiw, just saw an interview with Westhoff on SNY and he said that he's seeing improvement in Geno, compared to previous years. He was very positive about Geno, saying he appeared to be more instinctive, and definitely deserved to be #1 right now. It was a pretty good review. I was surprised, and am actually encouraged..a little Just sucks the news about AA tho
I just heard the podcast as well. Some good nuggets in there. He said Geno is slowly getting better. Seen times Geno might be our franchise QB. Never looked better in practice. He was VERY high on Skrine, IK and Gilchrist. IK was his breakout candidate. He also said Colon wins the RG job unfortunately. Predicts us to go 10-6.
You know Westy's got a hard-on for Ik. Probably would have loved to have him if he was still coaching.
