From prior the draft: http://www.si.com/more-sports/2012/04/25/draft-concussions Can't catch a break. Didn't know about the concussions he suffered in college so this is something that could potentially affect his NFL career at some point, they're just piling up. Would be a shame because he looked like a legit receiver in camp so far, running excellent routes and catching the ball consistently. His speed obviously has never been a question, so he finally put it all together and now this.
my number one concern was him remaining concussion free. this injury is our worst so far.. terrible break.
This is a bad one. It seemed like he was proving to be a very very well-rounded receiver that can burn guys one on one down the field to boot. He was our Devin Smith for when Devin Smith hit the inevitable bump in the road. Also has chemistry with Geno. This one would hurt...
well no injuries are good of course. i believe Owusu would've been a starter at WR and KR though, but he's continuing to show susceptibility with concussions, which may well end his career before it even really begins. just my opinion, but this one hurts the most. who knows tho....maybe he can come back and play the entire season without another one. let's hope! *Edit* if he does come back, i don't think KR would be a good idea anymore, or really any special teams. just WR from here on out to limit the big collision type hits.
Really bummed about this. He showed good promise. I hope they just use him as WR going forward and no special teams for him. Not sure if we will have that luxury though.
Stanford kid with that blazing 40 time, and a family pedigree of Ivy leaguers and professional athletes... He'd have been drafted in the early rounds if not for the concussions. essentially 3 in a year, and bad ones at that. i was hoping he was over it, and we had ourselves a real steal. still hoping for his sake!
Injuries happen in football, but the ones over the last few days have been really disappointing. I was looking forward to seeing him Milliner and Allen this season.
Does anyone think some of the injuries are due to Todd Bowles running a tougher camp? Jets players are used to softer camps run by Rex Ryan the last 6 seasons. I guess it is possible.
no, it seems like we've had receiver injury issues consistently in TC for several years now. I came in here to post this and was surprised to read your comment.
Dark Knight, I was starting to wonder the same thing, but I think it's either just typical Jets bad luck, or maybe a combination of that and poor training on the part of some of the players. Question: Once Idzik and Rex were fired, did the team trainer stay the same, or did that position change too? Trainers stress different things and use different methods. Since all of the injuries have been different, I would say it's not the trainer, but maybe he doesn't stress stretching enough. That probably wouldn't have prevented Milliner's arm issue or Owusu's concussion, but might have prevented the ruptured Achilles tendon and the hamstring problems.
Doubt it, we've had similar injuries in the past. When you have close to 100 players practicing and doing team drills something will happen at some point, that's just part of it. Remember Mark Sanchez getting injured in a meaningless preseason game because Rex told him to play? Pryor suffered a concussion on special teams in camp. I'm sure there were a bunch of other injuries. Also, Rex had a softer practice schedule, but when it came down to team drills and all that he was pretty rough on the players. And unlike Rex Bowles will not allow hitting during the "scrimmage" tonight. It's just one of those things you have to deal with unfortunately, nothing you can do about.
I don't think we're necessarily unlucky or doing anything wrong from a conditioning/practice standpoint. Injuries are just a very prominent part of training camp. If you ask the fans of any of the other 31 teams they probably also think their team is "cursed" with injuries. We just focus more on those from the Jets because they're our primary team, but if you closely analyze any of the other NFL rosters you'll find 5-6 injuries that have already taken place. Just gotta hope that they stay on the low end of the roster.
Lame. On the one hand, I'm relieved it's not our starters going down with these injuries (other than Mo), but it's still players who can make valuable contributions to the team that are getting hurt. Hopefully this is nothing serious.
Tough to blame these injuries on the CS. Allen's injury was a non contact, freak injury. I have not heard anything about Milliner's hit - he finished practice so it probably wasn't too violent - and Milliner is a bit of a fragile egg. Owusu's hit was incidental contact with a WR - hoping it's minor and that they are being extra cautious. Definitely sucks though.
