    1. Pats 5-1
    2. Jets 4-3
    3. Bills 2-5
    4. Fins 1-6

GB defeated Miami today, pretty much all but ending the fins season. And the bills couldn't get the job done against NE today.

Jets remain 1 1/2 games out of first. Right now, all the jets have to do is win next week, then have the Pats lose once over the next 2 weeks. Then Week 10 will determine who takes first in the AFCE at that point. If the Jets lose that game, they will be pretty much forced to play for a wildcard.

afce east is over, pats are gonna win and probably get a bye

what is reallyu interesting, is that we have a great shot at making the playoffs

i dont think we'll be the 6th best team, but we could easily have the 6th best record.

Actually, my biggest fear is that we do make the play-offs. I believe that we have so many holes that we're gonna get the snot slapped out of us early on. The way our schedule looks right now, the only two games that I see as 90+% losses are the NE and Chicago games. Other than that we have a good shot at knocking off every other team. Though I'd never hope our team to lose, I'd rather not make the playoffs this year, get a better draft choice, and make a deep drive next season.

There are only 4 teams in the AFC that we have to worry about, and they are the Jaguars, Patriots, Ravens and Broncos. Here is my projection on how things will end up:

    1. Colts
    2. Broncos
    3. Patriots
    4. Ravens
    5. Chargers
    6. Bengals

    Runners up: Jaguars, Jets

It will take an 11-5 record to make the playoffs probably, and I can see us finishing 10-6 but 11-5 might be asking too much. The Bears and Patriots games are probably losses, so that's 5 right there, and I don't know if we can win the rest of our games. The Colts will lose again in the playoffs, so it's hard to say they deserve their spot. They'll get it though. The AFC is still too good.

not to sound overly optimistic, but how can u declare a division race over if we go down 2 games with 7 to go? clearly if we beat NE week 10 we have a much better shot, but we have see MUCH crazier things happen than a team with an easy schedule catching a team with a 2 game lead over a 7 week period

you know, i thought like that too. but i think its just as important to set a winning attitude, to start a new culture. were not going to get a high pick regardless... look at our schedule. keep in mind that we also have 2 2nd round picks and its looking more and more like that washington pick will be a high one!

I also believe it will take 11-5 to get in. I think the Jets can find one win out of Minn, NE, and Chi. If they do, they are in. If they beat NE, then the Jets will win the AFCE.

So you are saying that you don't want us to make the playoffs. What kind of fan are you that you don't want to see your team in the playoffs. Even if we are overmatched I will love to see us go that far. With a harder schedule next year (it can't get easier) we might not have this kind of chance.

The reason is because it's clear that the Patriots are a very good team, and it should be clear to most Jet fans that we're not. We're not going to beat every team we play besides Chicago and NE, because we're not good enough to win on a week in, week out basis. Remember, the Jacksonville game was only two weeks ago, and they just lost to the Texans today. We're decent, we may be developing a solid offense, but our defense is still terrible in basically all aspests. I'd be satisfied with 8-8.

That's assuming we beat every other team. I do think we can beat the Vikings, I just think we might lose another game somewhere down the line.

The Jaguars are a good defensive team, especially at home. They probably lost an away game today, I didn't check up on them. But either way, it has to do with matchups. This is why I criticize Penny, isn't it amazing how our supposedly good offense always seems to dissappear against good defenses? This is why I say the teams I listed are the teams we will have problems with. The Jags probably don't make the playoffs, so even if we get in they aren't a problem. The problem is the Patriots probably make it, and the Broncos probably make it. The Ravens might make it. We'd run into one of those 3 teams probably. I'd much rather play the Bengals or Colts than any of those teams. The Chargers have a good defense too, but I don't really think it's that great. It'll also be in San Diego, so the wind and weather won't matter much. Penny really needs a dome stadium.

Umm...Hoping for your team not to make the playoffs? The more I think about that statement, the dumber I feel.

Youre kidding right? Isnt the whole point to make the playoffs -- not move up 3 draft picks. This is not the NBA == where MAYBE you have a point that losing the 1-8 first round is not worth being out of the lottery. Your thinking makes NO SENSE in the NFL at all.

Especially because he is rooting for the team to have a good record but not make the playoffs... something is missing there

the Jets could be 5-3 after the bye. If they win at Cle next week that would sit them at 10-6....whats crazy is they may not get into the playoffs even with that record. I'd rather the Jets lose outright the rest of the year, putting us in a position to draft high and get a high impact player. I know they are playing much better than that, but I was prepared for a miserable year before week 1. I'm happy they are playing well, but I'm torn....I want a good draft position because we do have quite a few holes.

Lose the rest of the year? Where do these Jets fans come from? Just because they might get a higher draft pick doesn't guarantee a better player. Besides, what do you think a losing streak like that would do for the players psyche? Take a look at the Arizona Cardinals. Mangini is trying to install a winning attitude and the Jets are better than expected now because of it. Some fans have no clue.
