As long as Chad is healthy and assuming Leon/Cedric look good the rest of the way, the Jets should look to defense in the draft. Players are needed at virtually every position on D. And besides the OL, the offense should take a back seat in the draft.
if adrian arrives, leon can get to the back of the line. you should use something those of us here in reality call common sense. its really a great tool to use throughout the day, everyday.
If you said that back in August, you'd be laughed right outa here. Hard to believe that the Jets stregnth right now is probably the skill positions. IMO, these are the top needs 1) elite pass rusher, either from DE or OLB 2) Road Plowing guard or RT 3) Nose Tackle 4) A true Inside LB (obviously Vilma doesnt need to be replaced, but we could use someone who is a true inside run stuffer)
In my opinion the D would look completely different if it just had one pass-rushing LB and a powerful nose tackle, and maybe another 3-4 end...other than that, the rest of the guys would improve greatly if those parts were added. Or rather, upgraded.
In response to whoever said take the Louisville backup, why take another young guy in a mid-round like we have with Washington/Houston...why not just sign someone and take a good defensive guy instead? or O-line that slips like a Mcneil or Justice or even Jean-Gilles of this year? And sorry, I thought I was in a different topic as opposed to the other page of this one...
Yeah Leon Washington is going to the back of the line after having one year under his belt and for a guy who has never played at the Pro level yet. That's common sense all right...In Bizaro world.
A FB is a top priority imo as well. I won't stop posting about Brian Leonard until he's here. I hope to God the jets draft him.
No kidding. I was definitely one who thought the Jets were suspect at WR and challenged at RB (to say the least). So far, Baker has been serviceable, Cotchery a revelation and Houston and Washington have shown enough to think that the Jets aren't as in dire straits in the backfield as was evident the first few weeks. (not to mention, Mr. Do-Everything, Brad Smith)
See Rodney Thomas. 3rd round selection of Houston in 1995. See Eddie George. 1st round selection of Houston in 1996. Any questions? Thomas ran for 947 yards as a rookie. He played six more years in the league as a backup. If the Jets were to draft Peterson, Washington would be the backup. He would get some starts, however. Peterson will miss action. He runs too violently to stay healthy. For the record, I don't want Peterson. I want the Jets to draft a right defensive end or right outside linebacker in round 1, unless they just want to go the best player available route in round 1.
RB is the least of our worries in the first 2 rds of the draft. we need either an OG/RT or a Pass Rushing 3-4 DE or OLB thats a given, not to mention a true NT.
