First off this game proved to me the Jets are the team i thought they were. It was a 7 point win at home but felt closer and 1 more mistake either way could have swung it. As i said before this game I expect to see you in the playoffs and not a 1 and done. I will consider the Pats the underdog when they play in NY. My thoughts. #1 Injuries - My Pats stayed healthy but your team got banged up at some pretty key spots. Tough to see cause even though you are rivals there are no players i really dislike on your team. Pretty class act overall to be honest. Hope they get healthy. #2 The Refs - What a horribly called game. One of the worst officiated games I have seen all year. Bad spots and the calls and non-calls. Just very bad all around. I think when 2 team of this level play a clean game is what the fans deserve. Hope we can get it with the next one (perhaps next 2) this year. #3 Up and Down - This was an odd game for both teams. At some points the Jets had everything working. At some points the Pats did. Both teams had missed plays and drops and turnovers left on the board. Also there were incredible clutch plays by both teams (particularly your Jets on 3rd down all game and our Offense in the 4th). I thought at times both teams played well at the same time it was some great football. #4 Bowles - I thought he coached very good game all things considered but made a big mistake on that play call where Gronk was free from the overload blitz. That was very questionable but he really didn't throw up all over himself in general and managed the game well. He did do a lot of other great playcalls though and take it from a Pats fans who watches opposing coaches make dumb calls week after week (compared to Bill who almost never does) Bowles was very refreshing. #5 Jets WRs - I really like how you stayed aggressive passing. That was the right call even if Ivory was 100%. Next time the Pats face you they better have done something to address that CB position cause that is a clear mismatch. I think it was the right call and should be your strategy next game. #6 Pats OL/Jets DL & Jets OL/Pats DL - The Jets won here in the 1st quarter but for the rest of the game I think the Pats won. Odd cause that is a match up i think you could have exploited more. The Pats DL did pretty well vs what i think is one of the best OLs in the NFL. Overall as much as you passed your unit won on pass protection but it was very competitive. I felt more so than the Pats OL/Jets DL which i felt the Pats overall won in the passing game pretty well surprisingly. #7 Pats WRs - Not their best game. Some nice pass defense but also just a lot of bad drops. Amendola and Gronk stepped up. Lafell off the layoff was not ready period. Next time we play he should be better so that might be something to keep in mind and adjust for. Overall I felt a lot of the time the Pats WRs were contained and was not until the 4th that a lot of break downs happen and a lot of that was particularly about your DL not being able to get any pressure for 4+ seconds at times. I will stop there cause i think top 10 would be inflated. Overall I think both teams can play better and the Jets clearly at light years ahead of last year and you have reason to be hopeful about what this team can do this year. Hopefully both teams get and stay healthy. Also though this was a 7 points win i really felt like the Pats squeaked out with a 1 point win just by how tough both teams played each other. It was a nail bitter to the end. Anyone who thinks the next one won't be is delusional.
Nice write up Bob. I hope the rest of the season we manage to play good football. We made a few too many mistakes, but not from who I thought they would be. Great game from bo ty h sides.
I would say the Jets were a better team for 35 of 60 minutes but i think the Pats when they were the better team were more dominant than the Jets were when they played better. So i think that kept it pretty close.
Good summary Bob. I agree the Pats DL outperformed in this game. The Jets OL usually creates a decent push for Ivory to exploit and get to the second level. In the first half he was injured, but in the second even when he did make forward progress it was tough sledding. I think he ran for one first down the whole game.
I think they were generally missing Ivorys normal explosiveness. There were a few holes that he missed. Sent from my SM-G928V using Tapatalk
You're really, really dumb if you think that's how it works. I know you're trying to justify every possible way to hate on the Jets, but you know damn well the Jets played much closer than the score indicates. The game easily would have been won if not for one or two stupid mistakes/playcalls. Every Pats fan I know even admits that they could have easily lost. If we play this game ten times, Pats will probably win 6/10 due to Brady, but again, the margin of victory will be extremely close each time. The Jets will absolutely be in the playoff hunt and can definitely be a sleeper pick to go all the way. We still have a ways to go, but I like our chances in the postseason.
You're being generous because if NEP receivers esp LaFelle hadn't dropped 10 balls you might have sustained drives, had more time of possession and scored more points. It was not a good performance on defense from the Jets but overall very competitive.
