Is he the next stud CB for this team? or maybe even in the league. I've watched him last year.. looked like our only bright spot at corner.. never really gets picked on successfully from what i remember. I know he's given up a TD or 2 but honestly i haven't seen him give up one in a lonnnng time until that Hopkins TD. Which is understandable.. Hopkins is a different kind of beast and clearly gave one of the best corners in history a fit.. so that kinda relieves that. Other than that who else really did this kid in? Undrafted rookie that even Bowles admitted to knowing nothing about when he was hired here, but says he's been one of his favorite players in the building since day 1. Got the start at #1 yesterday over cro and got an INT while doing so. Landry really had a day too after Williams went out. Now tied for the most picks in the NFL (for now).. Looking like he'll be our guy for the long run and wil make cutting cro oh so easy this off season. The kid's got speed, he can jump, and he's a solid man cover corner.. perfect for us. Marcus Island!
firstly hopefully he is ok. secondly hopefully the extra work gets the cs to realize that he is in fact better than cromo at this point and they get him in there.
That Hopkins TD... He pushed off and got away with it. If it was against Revis/Sherman/Peterson, the ref would have threw the flag.
He is currently at his best position as a back-up CB and spot starter. He provides a spark and big play ability, but I don't know if he can be an island. Please prove me wrong Marcus.
I've been pimping Marcus since last year when they inserted him in the starting lineup. Was picked up by Rex and stashed on the practice squad until that point, he deserves some credit for that. Could he be the next Josh Norman? Let's hope. One issue with him is his tackling, I didn't really notice it last year, but this year he missed some tackles, I hope he fixes that part of his game soon enough. As far as ball skills he's been a stud in college (set a school record for INT's), and he's leading the league already in interceptions despite playing behind Cro and especially early on barely getting any playing time. I'll never understand why headcoaches sometimes are so blind that they can't see this or realize it. But with the way he's playing you just can't ignore him any longer. If Bowles benches him again next week when Revis returns to make sure his boy Cromartie continues to be the starter I'll lose all my faith in him. He can't be that blind/stubborn/married to Cro. What he said last week about starting Cro already blew me away. He's the starter because he earned it over the years. What a bunch of horseshit.
I don't know what Williams overall skill level is but he's a ballhawk of the highest order. Just for that he should be on the field whenever the Jets are in a high passing volume situation. 5 completions allowed and a pick is a win for the defense in 6 pass attempts.
teams don't bench their starting vets because an udfa came in and made a few plays. It can take years to earn a starting role.
This happens all the time in good organizations. A player is a player, not a UDFA, not a 30 year old vet. Good organizations rank players by their contributions. Bad organizations rank them by their past production. As always players that the organization has a very high sunk investment in get special treatment, and likely should. So young 1st and 2nd round picks and vets with a lot of guaranteed money have a very long tether before they are replaced by UDFA's.
and the fact that he wears #20 still tickles me every game I watch. The pain, embarrassment, and loss of value that was first-round pick Kyle Wilson, is being being equaled out by the absolute bonus that is Marcus Williams. He's done more as a part time player in ten weeks than Wilson did in his three years. Was it three? felt like ten.
There's one thing that he has that makes me excited as hell, he reads the QB and breaks the route. And he does it often. Covering a guy step by step is very hard. But in order to be a deadly corner back in this league, you have to be able to read the QB and jump a relievers route. He has done it consistently and he did it again yesterday. I think this kid could really be something special brewing
Actually it's Babe Ruth whose career went on about fifteen years longer than it ought to. Yeah, it's sarcasm because your comment was ridiculous.
Press CB's don't get to watch the QB very often. Not sure what the Jets do with Williams given their scheme. In a Cover-2 he'd be a killer.
Wow Todd said that?? Over the years? coming from a guy that said nobody is a lock to start when he came here?? Preached the old "every man will earn his spot" bullshit... Cro cleary doesn't deserve to be out there even though he did well sunday.. He's not the KOBE of CB's therefore that "earned it over the years" is just bullshit.
Williams really can't tackle to save his life so against teams like NE that will screen pass us to death i'd worry ... SKrine can't tackle either.
