So some people here didn't want the Jets to bring back David Harris but also many of us actually wanted that so to the people that didn't want to, how you like him now? Look at his numbers, and that's just part of what he brings to the team as a teammate and as a quiet motivator. http://nypost.com/2015/12/16/how-jets-nearly-lost-the-glue-of-their-defense/
I'll be the first to eat crow. While he has always been a good player for the Jets and a solid citizen, my objections to him were his lack of speed. There have been a number of plays over the years that he simply couldn't get to and that hurt the Jets big time. I thought he was ridiculously overpaid in the contract before this latest one. Hence I either wanted to see him replaced in the starting lineup or gone altogether. If he was still here, I wanted him on a cheaper contract and less playing time. He has proven me wrong this year. I'm glad that the Jets knew better and re-signed him. I didn't know what a leader he was.
Someone here called it the worst contract of the offseason in the entire NFL. Wish I could find that thread now.
So refreshing that some people can actually admit their "mistakes" when they know they were wrong. (Sort of since it being a mistake is a matter of perception)
Thanks. I've never been one to shy away from admitting when I was wrong. We all can be "wrong" at times. There's no shame in being wrong or in admitting that one was wrong.
Awful and I would hate to see the Jets defense w/out David Harris this season. Shame, he's never been to a pro-bowl, I swore I thought he was in at least 1 of them! He won't be as good as Mo Lewis, but I hope fans appreciate DH more when he retires.
I was really vocal about not wanting him back. He's been one of the most pleasant surprises on the team this year, our best coverage linebacker and the leading tackler yet again.
Lol..Brandon Spikes... Definitely want jerseyjay14 to chime in here and admit he was wrong big time if he sees this thread.
Yeah, I was pretty sure the old man was washed up by last year, despite being a big DH supporter in years prior. I knew he could still play the run and could still tackle, but I've been impressed watching him drop into coverage this year. Like he's regained a step and a half. Could just be a change in his per-play responsibilities from Rex's D system, but he sure looks better in the eyeball test.
I don't recall being against bringing Harris back. In fact I think I was for it since there was no obvious replacement out there for him. Having said that I did expect Davis would upgrade his game this year; sadly that has not happened. And I do not think Harris is a Pro Bowler. His contract arguably is a bit high. But yes, he has had a very good year.
I wanted him back for his continuity and leadership, but I should also eat crow because much like NC I though he was way to slow to be effective on passing downs. He has proven me wrong, he has been an exceptional leader and always in the fight, forever at the right place at the right time. Happy as hell he is going to be with us till he retires. I'm just wondering if Bowles defensive schemes have helped Harris be even more successful, he seems be be everywhere and his timing is great. He speaks little but carries a big stick. If our OLB gets upgraded next year and Mauldin continues to develop we could have ourselves a dominant and disruptive D.
David Harris is a motherfucking boss. He doesn't make a lot of noise with his mouth probably why he has been one of the more underrated players in the NFL over the years
