1) Trying a 52 yard FG in the first half... I screamed no at the TV before the kick was tried...even if he'd made it, I disagreed. You could feel momentum slipping away, and the risk/reward on a long kick that doesn't even tie the game is too great. Mangini's feel for the game is almost as bad as Herms. 4th and short, they needed to attempt to get the first down there.
He was going with the wind but the way the D was playing at that point it was a real gamble to risk that type of play witn the inconsistency of Nugent. The Jets had lots of momentum on O in the 1st Q but simpley gave it away with bad playcalling and a turnover.
It was close whether or not it would have been short. However, he nailed a 47 yd kick in the same direction by plenty to make the 52 yd kick.
ummm...you do realize that a 52 yard FG with the wind is makeable, right? oh...and by the way...you do realize we drafted this asswipe in the 2nd Rd, right? I mean, if we can't count on him to make a 52 yarder with the wind once in a while, why the hell did we waste a Rd 2 draft pick on a kicker? P.S. anyone else sick of seeing this kid kick short on EVERY GODDAMN KICKOFF?
I thought the most entertaining thing about yesterday's game was RobA agreeing with the 52-yard FG attempt.
Using draft position as a basis for in game decisions would be a great way to get fired. And I fail to see what his draft position has to do with the decision to go for it or kick a FG yesterday. That being said it was certainly was makeable but at the outer limits of his range. I would've preferred to see them go for it in that spot but I don't think it was that egregious of a decision.
That is almost the more frustrating thing than the FG's. I didn't see the game yesterday so I can't talk about that but every other game all his kickoffs only go to about the 10 yard line.
You've twisted my words. I never said that coaching decisions should come down to draft position. The point I tried to make was...if you have a kicker who was drafted so early maybe a 52 yd field goal with the wind isn't the thing you should be complaining about after a loss...
Nugent is what he is. You can hate his draft position all day long but it won't change the fact that 52 is still out of his range.
Count me in. See Vinateiri last night? Okay, the ball travels farther in Denver, but man, what a dropoff in quality from an elite kicker.
Yall are making all kind of excuses for the loss withour pinpointing the real reasons that there DLine totally manhandled our O line & there OLine totally manhandled our DL. As for the supposed Baker TD well if we would have played better for the 1st 59 minutes of the game we would probably not been in the situation where a refs call would decide a crucial play. So the NYJs have bo one to blame but themselves for poor play on both sides of the ball yesterday
he had wind at his back and later he nailed a 47 yarder that might have been good from 52. It was a terrible sequence after we pinned them at the 2 though.
he should be cut. What a waste of a fucking pick. Theres still plenty of retards on this board that will tell you that the short kicks are on purpose. That is absolute bullshit. The kid cant kick off and the kid wont make 41-47 yard field goals consistently in this league. He needs to go aong with dewayne busterson.
I don't have as much problems with this as I do with us getting cute which resulted in FGs, instead of playcalling like we could have and getting TDs
I'm surprised nobody mentioned yet another kickoff out of bounds yesterday. Gave them the ball at the 40, seven plays later they are tying up the game. Those are killers....
