I turned off the tv immediately after the win, and this morning I watched the post-game nonsense over a cup of coffee. You would have thought they won the AFC championship game from the jocular interviews with Fitz, Decker & Marshall. They were giddy and goofy....with Mangold photo bombing Fitz on live tv. Did they not realize how shitty they looked out there?...against a shitty team? Revis was the only one who acted even slightly humble and happy to get out of there with a win. Sweats on the plane. Whatever. The Pats are gonna stomp us if we play like that next week.
I said it in the game day thread and I will say it again here. You guys that keep saying we played like shit are nuts. We were not going to beat this team like we beat the Titans at home. The Dallas defense is legitimately good and we put up 300 yards on them in the air. We created 4 turnovers and held them to 16 points. Yes they have no QB but they have a good Oline and skill players. Did we play like world beaters? NO, Did we leave some points on the table? Yes Did we play terrible or like shit? you are out of your mind if you think so.
The jets did play terrible, I don't have a problem if the jets win a hard fought clean but close game. This was the type of game that should have been won by slowly building up your points lead, it was not going to be a repeat of the Titians. My issue is the tendency of the HC to leave points on the table, when the offense did what you said and moved the ball on the Dallas defense. Football is a game of momentum, Dallas was starting to gain it after they put up a FG, the Jets march down the field and start proving that they are for real, nothing ruins the phsyche of an inferior opponent more than the better team imposing their will on them. When TB decided to go for it on 4 and inches and Dallas stopped them, you can see the Cowboys confidence was renewed and we were in for a game. In football it's a domino effect, very few times are plays isolated from any long term term negative or positive consequences. In my opinion, when a team leaves points on the table, they will eventually have to chase them during another point in the game, it will also affect the way the offense selects plays. Instead of being tied and trying to use a balanced approach by establishing the run, they are still playing from behind, no HC should contribute to his team playing from behind. The penalties were an issue, especially with winters, but that also is a result of this CS not realizing or having enough time to see that Winters is an awful player, he has turned into Wayne Hunter. The CS is also responsible for the ST play, how or why this team has not made a move in that department is beyond me. They jets did not play well, some of the credit goes to the Cowboys players, but the jets CS, ST and penalties contributed more to the sloppiness of the game than the Cowboys players did. I'm happy they won and I'm happy with the season so far, but it does bother me that the Jets still have the same issues in week 13 that they had when they were 1-4 and gave up what was a great start to the season. CS mistakes, ST mistakes, Oline issues. All I can hope is that they are addressed some how in the off season.
Special teams are our achilles heel, a 25 yard punt in a controlled dome, phantom horse collar, Davis is the worst player on the field, next to Winters, Cro returning each kickoff to the 15, but we still won...fun to stick the fork in the Cowshits, now you can put Romo on IR!
Well said - except for the first line, as I said overall I do not think we played terrible, sloppy at times yes, but we just needed to clean up a few things. Harris going down was a major challenge for this defense to deal with. Losing Marshall and Decker for a key drive each was an obstacle as well. Coaching decisions, O -Line and Special Teams continue to be a major problem for this team. I am willing to give Bowles a chance to see if he can grow and learn in this respect, something Rex could never do. Oline needs to be a major focus, should have went Oline in the draft early last year. First and Second round Oline probably hit on a more consistent basis than any other position. You draft O line early, you generally get a starter for a decade. Special Teams needs to just get blown up and go back to the drawing board. Down 3 on the road, you have to take points when you can get them - I do not care if it is an inch. And then to top it off, if you do go you need to qb sneak it. Chan frustrates the shit out of me, running out of the shotgun way too much and substituting players at the most head scratching times (Ridley this week).
Last year, we lose this game. Earlier this season, we lose this game. Good teams win ugly. Good teams find a way to win. This team is learning how to win games on the road and under the national glare. This HC is learning how to coach under pressure as well. How many times has this team shit the bed on national tv? How many times has this team been embarrassed on national tv to the point of being a punchline? What happened last night? We won.. Babysteps folks.. We're learning how to win slowly but surely. Verrry interested in next week's game against the NEPs.
I cant make up my mind whether this was a gutty win or an almost lost this one Compelling arguements on both sides My gut said before the game it would resemble the Gianyts win....llooks like it did points wise...lol poor folks who bet heavily on Jets burned by push or half a point
I hope you are right Grandpa C. This season I got no expectations from the Jets. As long as Bowles and Mac prove they are the right guys for the job, I will be happy. If they are in fact the real deal, playoff wins this and that will eventually come. Last night we didn't play our best but we still won. As long as coaching stuff is learning, I will take it. Games like these are part of the learning process.
It s amazing what I read or see in posts and game threads. (It's over, Bowles sucks, team playing flat, offense sucks, Geno this, DD is the worst LB ever, Special teams blows, we re losing to a shit team, Calling Bullock Fat, Gailey is awful play caller, Season s over, Marshall sucks dropping a pass, Decker's season is over) God, I just wished some folks would just enjoy the games. It takes 60 mins to play the game, and there will always be the bad, the good and the breaks. There will always be someone effing it up, a bad series of execution, penalty killers, questionable play calling. Every teams will go through some tough losses and tough wins. Thats football. We're 9-5 in still in the thick of the playoff race. This is a fun Jet team. As some stated here good teams play through some struggles. Jets are doing that. Enjoy the win. Enjoy the season. Enjoy the Holidays.
Thick of playoff race? The best thing about last night's game was Decker not being as hurt as he looked initially... That was scary. Hopefully they got it (shitty play) out of their system and we finish the season strong.
