(Other than Miller's KOR TD) From late in the 3rd unil the end of the gam the D played great. I know Cleveland got conservative but evnb when we know opponents are runnin we haven't been able to stop them so to see them do that late in the game was great to see and we never would have had a chance if they didn't play so well late. Also, they were flying around, playing w/ tremendous passion- where has that been all year? they looked like a different D out there.
Thats a very good point, they played well enough to allow us to come back and then get fucked by the refs. Usually when we need our D to come up big, theyre not there, yesterdays game was different. Intensity definitley showed up for most of the 2nd half, maybe we can keep it coming out of the bye week.
Maybe Mangini and/or Sutton got in their collective asses on the sidelines too. They played like sh!t for 3qtrs and I'm hoping the CS let them know it. So far, they've been underachieving on a weekly basis and its getting old. They looked damned near listless all game long then suddenly, they're playing like their gamechecks were on the line.. Go figure...
It needs to start at the beginning of the game. We are sooooooooo slow about performing from 1st quarter until the 4th.
That's what makes it even more frustrating, where were they the first half??? Hate to say it but IMO except for a couple of plays Vilma had another sub par game and I'm still looking for an Ellis sighting. The supposed leaders are not stepping up, but Barton was all over the place....
Eric Barton was a maniac...That was a huge positive from the game, his play was tenacious and he just might be our best linebacker...
Soooo...the positive is that the Jets Defense played well for 18 minutes after we were losing 20-3? Wow...I mean...WOW
Baby steps, the D has played awful all year long. in no game at any point did they play as well as they di fom late in the 3rd until the end.
Nothing really noticeably changed until Justin Miller's KO return of 99 yards. That lit a fire under the whole team. We were playing very uninspired football till that point. I was affraid we would be flat against a team we should have beaten on paper, and we were, till JM's run back.
So what exactly did our defense do different in the 4th quarter?? Can anyone figure that out, because we need to do that all game next time. The D looked great in the 4th, we didn't get pushed back 3 yards on every play and got into the backfield.
i only saw about 50 percent of the game on the tube, listened to 50 percent of the game on radio, but what i thought about the defense "waking up" was in reality heavy blitzing by the LB's & secondary in the 4th quarter AND conservative play calling by Cleveland I think sutton & company thought they didn't have to blitz to keep Droughns at bay and frye off his game in the early going. In reality, they did have to blitz and it's a shame they waited till almost the 4th quarter to realize this? This defense simply isn't good enough to rush 3 and hope the LB's fill the holes. They have to come up without creative ways(blitzing) to stop the run and get pressure on the QB. your guys thoughts?
Every team we play from now until the end of the year will try to run against us out of the blocks until we prove we actually can stop them. Looking ahead to NE. How many of you think we can contain their ground attack (Maroney, etc.)? Assume, you now let Brady have the luxury of picking and choosing when to pass because of the successful ground game. Throw in maybe 2 untimely Jets mistakes and there you go..........NE wins. I hope not, but there is nothing to lead me to believe that we are going to win our next 2. Six in a row after that is unrealistic.
It won't happen until the Jets get better players. You can only play with the cards you're dealt. The whole DL needs to be redone in my opinion, sprinkle in a pass-rushing LB, a new right side of the OL, and a game-breaking WR. This is going to take a couple of more decent drafts......
I don't really think our D did that great. I mean, on one of the last drives that the Browns had the ball, they had a chance to put the game away, but did 3 consecutive runs.
