Defensive coordinator Vance Joseph spoke critically about defensive end Mario Williams and defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh on Thursday, saying Williams needs to “play better” and “play harder” and that no one, including Suh, has consistently defended the run well.

Joseph’s words about Williams echoed head coach Adam Gase, who on Wednesday said Williams has been “up and down.”

Joseph was asked how Williams has played and replied, “He’s got to play better, he’s got to play harder, he’s got to play better.

“Obviously he’s being allowed to rush the passer but the games we’ve been in it’s been more run first, pass second games. So for us to be a great rush team we’ve got to earn the right and stop the run, all of us — Mario, Suh, Jordan [Phillips], all those guys up front, if they want to rush more, stop the run more consistently.

“So I think Mario’s got to play better, he’s got to play faster and more consistent.”

Joseph also notably included Suh among the group that has not defended the run consistenly well when asked about that area of the defense.

“I would say this,” Joseph said, “out of our front four, no one has.”

    no surprise there.
Bills made the obvious choice in moving on from Mario.

Mario and Suh are modern day versions of Albert Haynesworth. It's great they are both on the Dolphins.

Dolphins are trash from the owner on down. Fire everyone. The owner, the GM, the headcoach, and the QB are all turds. Really not many bright spots even if you are an optimist. Bunch of overpaid and overrated clowns on the defense and nothing on offense. They won't lose enough to get 1 of the 2 stud QBs coming out so Gase and Tannehill get another year--maybe they go 2-14 next year.

Of course they beat Pittsburgh, of course! That's what they do. The fools on FinHeaven are rejoicing and talking playoffs but rest assured the Dolphins will lose to the Bills next week. I for one am betting Buffalo to cover the 3.

I don't have a lot to rejoice about this year, but one of my humble Xmas wishes was that Rex Ryan coaches well enough to get him into the playoffs, and that the Bills sign him to a 4 or 5 year extension.

My Xmas miracle is almost upon us.
