Not much of an excuse, but the article does say this extension was signed at the beginning of the season.

And at the beginning of the season he was favored by most to be the first HC fired this season.

Jeff Fisher is a better coach than any the Jets have had this century.

Not a terrible move, they will be a playoff team in 2 years.

He hasn't had enough time? They're 31-43-1 under Fisher in his fifth season with the team. The Jets are 31-44 in the same timeframe with the combination of Rex & Bowles.

They've been just as bad as we have and he's topped out at 7 wins. Talk about mediocrity. He needs to be fired and they need to get a coach to develop the quarterback they mortgaged their future for. They would've had time to save Goff's development. With another season under Fisher, I can easily see Goff busting.

Six winning seasons out of 22 in his career. It's amazing to me that he can keep getting and keeping jobs.

Wonder what Eric Dickerson's reaction to this news is?

Jeff Fisher has as many years in head coaching as Belichick.
Fisher has 6 winning seasons, Belichick just locked up his 14th consecutive 10 win season, and will likely have his 11th 12-win season over those 14 years.
Fisher has no playoff wins since 2003. BB, well, you know..

So addressing the bolded part of your post?

Answer: Fisher's agent is the father of the team's COO.

Headed into Sunday’s game at New England, Fisher was just two away from tying Dan Reeves for the most losses (165) in NFL coaching history.

Still, there never was any indication from inside the organization that Fisher was headed for the exit.

“Everybody will want to judge Jeff through the prism of just the record, but that’s totally unfair when you look at the set of circumstances he was handed this year,” Rams COO Kevin Demoff
told the NFL Network recently. “It was different than any team in the NFL.

That record will be broken by Christmas. This will be the 5th year in a row with his Rams not even reaching 8 wins. That team has some talent too. He is trash

I really don't get it at all. Is he the worst head coach ever with 10+ seasons? His 6 winning seasons were all double digit wins. Outside of that it was 8-8 or worse. It's truly incredible.

The NFL must be furious about it. They're keeping this guy around, and stunting the growth of the first overall pick (that they traded the farm for) in their brand new Los Angeles franchise.

Well the teams OWNER needs to step in and fire one of them and never allow such nepotism to exist again!

Dickersons rant was priceless the other day.

He brought up Bill Bellichicks comments about Bellichicks fear of the Rams.....Punter!

    Priceless.
