i think it's fair to say the Jets are at a crossroads looking forward. It really brakes down to either doing a quick fix like the Giants or a long term rebuild like Seattle. The quick fix: Fire Bowles and go after McDaniels Sign Glennon QB Sign Collins LB Sign C Jones OLB Sign Shreader RT Sign Bouye CB Draft Fournette RB Release Revis, Breno, Harris, Forte The long term rebuild: Keep Bowles start Hackenberg in 2017. Get 1st overall and draft the best QB prospect in 2018. Fire Mac/Bowles and hire John Harbaugh with full authority in 2018. What's ur quick fix vs Long term? Which do u think will get us to super bowl?
neither one of those are realistic. a quck fix involving mike glennon isn't really a fix and harbaugh isn't leaving michigan.
For me, the long term fix involves axing Bowles. If they return for 2017, with the idea that Woody will probably fire them anyway after we go 3-13 next year, then that coaching staff has spent another season ruining the potential progress of the younger players. For the long term fix to begin, he needs to be fired now. Beyond that, the roster purge should begin immediately. Mevi$, Marshall, Richardson, and all of the rest of those overpriced veterans should be sent packing, freeing up cap space for the future. Hire a coach who is committed to a rebuilding project, preferably one with an offensive mindset and with some head coaching experience, and move forward. 2017 would be a painful, but necessary season. It would be somewhat like what Cleveland just underwent, a season in which a lot of young players got large amounts of playing time. Use 2017 to help build the base for the future of the franchise and then look to supplement that base with the 2018 draft and free agency class. Next year would be bad enough to net the Jets one of the top 2-3 picks in the draft, which should put them in a position to grab a top prospect at QB. By that point, hopefully Maccagnan would have built the base up enough to have some semblance of talent around that QB so that he's not viewed as the guy who has to drag the offense towards respectability, but would rather be one cog in the machine who could eventually grow into an elite talent.
The giants quick fix is nothing like the jets quick fixes. Snacks, Vernon and Jenkins are in their prime years, unlike the over the hill players the jets sign
I agree with the above responses to the OP. No way either McDaniels comes here or Harbaugh leaving Michigan (with the exception of going for the Bears job). The most likely quick fix that I see happening is to keep Bowles for '17, then signing Cutler (or another big name veteran) and plugging in some other holes with some more over the hill free agents. Voila, another 4-12 season. Can't wait.
Rebuild the O-Line first please. We haven't paid much attention to it since 2006 draft (Ferguson & Mangold) I guarantee you if we picked up some extra draft picks (trade Richardson; compensatory for Snacks?) ) and were successful in orienting the draft & FA to bolstering the line, we're in a much better situation at this time next year, regardless of our record.
I said JOHN Harbaugh. His contract is up after next year and apparently he wants a job with full control. With Ozzy there he will never get that.
my fault, but i don't think john has the cache to want or be given total control so i will still say not realistic
I will continue to preach this........ Management must be changed FIRST There is nothing from 2015 till 2016 that has me confident this CS is adept at ANYTHING That said any rebuild is essentially worthless with these clowns as Coaches.....all the talent in the world...and the Jets have had that ,,,cant make up for ingame pregame and motivational crapola We conga line backwards if Bowles is still here ...you watch
Any sentence that includes the word 'fix' without the words 'cut Revis' is an improper sentence. lol Anyway, owners running a team in the middle of nowhere (Buffalo for example) may get away with draining the swamp, but teams in big markets like the Jets with a big fan base and a lot of pissed off sponsors and pissed off STHs would never get away with it. Macc's 'competitive rebuild' is spot on.
Long fix all the way. You can't try to bandaid all the holes on the team in one off-season. It will take multiple seasons. Commit to it. Ignore the Yankee and Laker fans who want instant gratification.
Go hard after Sean Payton. Trade Sheldon for whatever the going rate is for multiple drug offending, big mouth D linemen. Go BPA in every single round of the draft with any combination of OL/CB/RB/Pass rusher. Sign vet QB to compete with Petty and Hack for starter/backup roles. Cut Revis, B Marshall, Gilchrist. Renegotiate deals with Harris and Mangold. Inform Forte his job next year will be similar to how LT was used here, with Powell getting at least a legit 50/50 split with him. If he's too prideful to accept that reality, cut him too.
The Giants quick fix involved a potential Hall of Fame two-time SB winning QB who had an up season and gave them incentive to make the quick fix. The Giants fix in 2004 involved going 4-12 in 2003 and then trading up in a thick QB draft to get the one they thought was the best of the crop. There's no quick fix available for the Jets under either scenario. They have no QB to quick fix around and there's no deep QB draft to potentially trade up in. So the premise of the original post is flawed.
Why because the Giants are winning and the Jets aren't? But if we didn't retain Fitz we could've had Snacks back. However 10m a yr for a 2 down lineman kind of questionable. How many games do we win this yr with Snacks
