I don't think after 1 year(though someone may do what we did w/ mangini) but if he continues to get the job done he'll get his chance in the coming years.

Eventually it may happen, but I do not think it is time yet.

No offense but discussions and hypotheticals like this drain me of my life force. As much of a copy cat league as this might be it's not that bad. No one is going to have BS on a short list. We heard it half way through the season with Donnie, and other teams will hear it when they have success but it never pans out and it never happens. I would just love a season without "well there goes our coordinator we had a good game" because in all honesty if we're dominated by the Bears this discussion means nothing because when Monday rolls around with todays fickle media and fans he'd be sitting at the bottom of the totem pole again.

as soon as we start winning, he will be gone. You usually pick your assistant coaches who come from teams with winning traditions.

Yeah his contract is up and he has said he'd probably retire as an NFL coach at the end of this contract. The thing that was open was whether or not he could do that without winning a super bowl. Well, he won the super bowl last year.

My best guess right now is that he retires as caoch of the Steelers and takes another less demanding position in the organization. Schottenheimer is exactly the kind of guy I'd expect the Steelers to try to replace Cowher with: young, smart and thinking out of the box. Again, my best guess is that the Steelers next coach will be an offensively minded guy who can come in and help get Roethlisberger straightened out again.

would a team such as the steelers ever hire a head coach with only one year of experience? The answer is no
