If there is a positive today it is possible, but not very likely, that if everything goes perfectly right the Jets could be drafting as high as #4 (note, I haven't checked next weeks schedule, it's possible two teams we need to lose are playing each other next week). Of course the Jets being the Jets....if everything goes wrong they could draft as low as 12th....(again with the caveat I haven't looked at next weeks schedule).
Another positive is the way the defense played today. They did terrific without Wilkerson, and for a large part of the game without Williams, against a very good offense. All this team needs is a few offensive players in the right positions and there's no doubt in my mind they'd be a playoff team.
We really needed the Bucs to win today. For us to move up, we need any of the following to occur: Bucs to beat the Saints Houston to beat the Steelers AND the Colts Broncos to beat the Chiefs 49ers to beat the Rams If all of the above occur, we are picking 4th. If none of the above occur, we are picking 8th.
Yeah Williams was solid as the man, moving off as more of the 3-4 end while Pennel (had his best game as a Jet) and Cooper (I like his motor) did well too. Of course lack of pass rush reared its ugly head again as besides Big Cat, only Jenkins had decent pressure in the game. The Jets need a speed demon off the edge to get some pass rush on the outsides.
Chiefs clinched and are at denver. They likely play no one. Rams clinched as well. The jets should be able to pick up 2 more spots next week. With an upset along the way, top 5 pick
currently yes, I said if everything goes right and that I hadn't checked next weeks schedule to make sure teams we needed to lose weren't playing each other. If, Texas and Oakland both win on Monday. the Jets will still be at number 8 (texas would be 5-10 as well but have a weaker sos, but Oakland losing would insure we couldn't draft worse than 11th. if next week SFO, Denver, Houston, and Tampa all lose and the jets lose then the Jets would draft 4th. Houston plays the colts good chance houston wins Tampa plays the Saints we're probably screwed there. Denver plays the Chiefs Chiefs probably win so we're screwed there. 49ers play the rams, so we're probably screwed there. I'd bet on drafting 6th or 7th (I'm assuming one upset and that the upset isn't the Jets beating the Pats).
Depends on if the Rams or Chiefs are playing for a chance at a bye week...if they have a chance at the bye they'll play players. here's hoping they have nothing to play for.
if the jets win then all of the above doesn't matter, but then if the bears and bengals lose the jets could draft 10th or 11th, not sure how the sos would change if miamia lost and the jets won.
It's probably not even gonna matter. Browns and Giants are gonna take whoever the top 2 QB's end up being. Bears, Bucs, Texans and Colts don't need a QB anyway, and I'm not sure there'll be a 3rd one worth trading up for. We're gonna be in position to take a real good player in the 1st no matter what, and hopefully there'll be a QB worth trading back into the 1st or with our early second.
Given the history of our second round picks, I'd go for a QB in the first and a Oline guy in the 2nd. Our 2nd rd. picks almost never pan out. If we have to miss on a 2nd rd. pick, let it be a tackle or guard or center. Anything other than a QB. Amazing how everyone is on the tank train NOW instead of earlier in year when it really mattered.
There seems to be 1 first round grade QB that will fall to us. I also like the left tackle from Notre Dame if we dont go that route.
Better catch that falling star now & it is sure to be lower next week after they visit Belly, Brady & co
This team was real bad last year, I can remember 5-6 games of just blow outs. This year the team has been competitive in every game besides Denver and possibly Tampa if you want to go that far. They were expected to win 1-2 games by most "analysts" with no talent on the roster. With a first rounder, two second rounders and almost potentially 100 million in cap, the future is bright. That is the positive, not just for today, but for the season
When your strengths are on the defensive side of the ball it is very hard to tank. You're going to win a few you shouldn't and stay close in others. This is why the Jets keep picking 5th to 13th in our down years. We invest in defensive players which then lead to lower draft picks in which the BPA is a defensive player. It's a vicious cycle. Then we draft poorly in rounds 2 and 3 and we're trapped again.
We are actually at virtual tie with SF for #7, after today's 2 games with Pitts & Phil we should have an identical SOS with SF 125-115 each....so it would come down to: we want Cleve& Jax to lose....they want Car & Bears to lose, so good possibility this goes to tiebreakers or a coin flip.... ...another positive situation for the Jets is KC is locked into #4 playoff spot, so Denver which had a low chance of an upset next week may be able to get Win against KC if Andy Reid rest players??
