Mac has been responsible for the Jets’ talent level the past few seasons. The talent level has definitely been above the Browns, but not by much. There’s a reason why every win last year felt like a miracle! It’s important to remember that two years of really shitty rosters bought Mac the $80M+ that he has to spend this offseason. If Mac doesn’t fix the mess that he’s made, he should be let go. (There’s a lot of questions that I have about Mac’s strategy, such that if he knew that he wanted to grab a QB in the 2018 draft, why didn’t he accumulate draft assets in addition to cash? Why didn’t he trade Wilkerson last offseason, even if it was peanuts? Why not move 2017 draft assets to get some in 2018? Granted, too much planning, like the Browns have done, can be harmful as well...) In Pederson’s parlance, Bowles would be a good coach if you wanted to go 8-8. He’s too conservative. He’s like Ron Rivera without either the Riverboat or flexibility on offense. I’m not a Bowles fan. Still, taking that dumpster fire roster to 5-11 showed that he’s neither completely incompetent or the worst (O’Brien had more to work with but got less results). It means that if you give Bowles a roster with league-average-talent, the Jets would go around 8-8. Still, not exactly what Jets fans want/need. All-in-all, firing Mac and Bowles seems more likely than not. Maybe, after Cousins takes the Vikes to the Super Bowl, we can grab DeFilippo to be the next Jets head coach.
I am not sure I looking at the same the same team ...Wil Sorry ...no one here could start on any good team in this League ...Darron Lee??? Are you serious ??he's a borderline bust/wasted first ...like Parcells said "you are what your record says you are" Two seasons of 5-11??? A Coach who can't Coach and gets rid of OCs every year??? We are neck and neck with Cleveland at the bottom of the barrel That said ..you can only go up from there lol Forget Cousins..that's a pipe dream ..get a quality QB ..Rosen or Mayfield and build around them Somehow or other get rid of Bowles or have an OC who REALLY calls the shots That would earn anyone's respect ..to do it the RIGHT way
Sadly, I don't think Mac's seat is as hot as most here. Woody is across the pond and Chris Johnson appears to have bought into Mac's long term plan. He could have let him enter the season on his final year or given him a one year extension but he gave 2 additional years, so 3 more total. Last season was year one of the long over due rebuild. Mac has 2 more years to get this team competitive. ( Playoff caliber.) I expect he will make a legitimate attempt to sign Cousins but do not believe that he will offer him a ridiculous contract. Forget the $30-35 million per year being suggested here, you can also forget 5-6 years fully guaranteed that many here have suggested too. I also feel if Cousins or another FA he feels is a viable option at QB is not signed, he will attempt to trade up but again, he will not give up as much capital as some are suggesting . He will be active in free agency but don't expect multiple top tier FAs or your going to be disappointed. I'm sure plenty of cap money will be carried over. We are currently a 5 win team, we are not going to be contenders for the super bowl in 2018, and probably won't be there in 2019 but with a solid couple of off-seasons, we should be close and maybe even make it. It took many years of poor drafting to get us to the point we are at and it's not going to be turned around in two off seasons. As long as there is considerable improvement over last season, Both Mac and Bowles will be here in 2019. If Mac has not found an answer at QB, addressed the O line and most other needs by then, 2019 will likely be his last an Bowles too.
If I were him I would polish up his resume and lie a lot. Because he sure doesn't have alot to brag about. I'm the King of BPA.
I disagree. If he doesn't get this team moving this year he will be gone. Bowles also because the fans won't stand for another losing season and if he misfires on free agency that will just speed up the process. The draft alone will not save him, because he's really awful in that department.
We have to start taking a punt or 9. I love the theory of just keep swinging until you get something that looks great! This will be Macs big swing. We need 3 qbs for next season and let's just go for it. Weve reached a point where below average qbs are paid over 20mil. If by the end of the season we are no closer to a quality starter then the new HC and GM will take their shot. Sent from my SM-G610Y using Tapatalk
Fortunatly, or unfortunately, I don't think Chris Johnson is basing his decision on fan opinion. He has bought into the long term vision, Woody had also before he left, but Woody would have seen the 5 wins last year as a clear sign we we're just a couple of players from the Playoffs and would be pushing Mac to sign every and any FA at all cost. Leading us right back to where we were last year. Chris seems to have a different approach. Time will tell ....
Does Woody's brother make these decisions himself, or is he just Woody's man on the scene who takes orders from Woody in London?
Chris currently has full control of the team. Personally I think Woody agreed to the rebuild,in part because he would be away from the team for a few years. If he were not in the UK, we would still be in win now mode and Woody would be very hands on in FA signings.
Mac will get Kirk Cousins, then draft Barkley. or Mac will re-sign Josh McCown, then draft Josh Allen.
as much as id love to see option A come to fruition ( moreso for barkley0, thetres no way teh Jets end up with Saquan
Yep, the only way the Jets could get him is if they traded up, and doing that for a running back is dumb. If you trade up, you take a QB. I could see Nelson being available at #6 when the Jets draft, and IMO that's the best choice if they get Cousins. You gotta protect a $30m a year guy.
All this talk is cheap when it comes to the draft projections. There is no guarantee Barkley goes in the top 5. Especially before free agency has commenced.
If I could bet in Vegas right now, I'd put money on Barkley in the top 3, but you're right. You never know. If he fell to #6 and the Jets had Cousins they'd have no choice but to pull the trigger and make us all happy
If Barkley does in fact go to a team in the top 5, and Kirk Cousins to the Broncos or Vikings it could help the Jets get Josh Rosen. Kirk Cousins signs with the Broncos first 5 picks scenario. 1. Sam Darnold, QB, USC - Cleveland Browns 2. Bradley Chubb, DE, North Carolina State - New York Giants 3. Saquon Barkley, RB, Penn State - Indianapolis Colts 4. Minkah Fitzpatrick, CB, Alabama - Cleveland Browns 5. Quenton Nelson, G, Notre Dame - Denver Broncos 6. Josh Rosen, QB, UCLA - New York Jets Kirk Cousins joins the Vikings instead of the Broncos who pick ahead of the Jets scenario. This one requires trade up. 1. Sam Darnold, QB, USC - Cleveland Browns 2. Bradley Chubb, DE, North Carolina State - New York Giants 3. Josh Rosen, UCLA - New York Jets (Trade with Colts) 4. Saquon Barkley, RB, Penn State - Cleveland Browns 5. Josh Allen, QB, Wyoming - Denver Broncos 6. Quenton Nelson, G, Notre Dame - Indianapolis Colts If you want to land Josh Rosen without trading up, I'd say the best bet is for Cousins to sign with the Broncos. I can't see the Broncos picking Josh Allen over Josh Rosen if they are in need of a quarterback.
Both scenarios omit Mayfield in the first 6 picks. First, I think he goes #1 to the Browns. Second, if he's there at 6 and the Jets pass I will be done as a Jets fan, effective immediately, until Macc & Bowles are gone.
