wow you are gonna get destroyed for that post

pennington was hurt in pre-season, in game 3, and in game 8 i think-- so technically he is well past the "injury window"

Actually Pennington usually gets hurt early in the season. Last year it was Week 3, in 2004 it was week 5, and in 2003 it was in the preseason.

So no...Pennington never usually goes down this late in the season.

I was going to create a new thread, but I suppose this one will do.

After being nearly re-injured, I had several thoughts going through my mind yesterday concerning the QB position:

    1) Why was Ramsey momentarily inserted? I guess the obvious answer is that he's #2 on the depth chart (duh...), but I thought Clemens might have been the better choice. I guess Mangini still feels Clemens isn't ready for prime time.

    2) But with 4 minutes left and the score at 26-11, are there any other fans out there besides me who would liked to have then seen Clemens get some time? Penny had been thrown around enough for the day on that play by Williams and we were getting pretty close to "garbage time" IMO, if not already there. With 4 minutes left, the Texans would have had to touch the ball twice after Clemens got a chance to take some snaps.

A bit risky perhaps, but we need to start finding out what we have in Clemens. Any thoughts?

It would have been an ok time to put in Clemens, but with all the "bench Chad" talk going around, it was the right move to let him finish the game.

I was thinking the opposite... that it was the right time to put Clemens in because no one would question the decision to let Chad take the rest of the game off after getting smacked around. Everyone, including Chad, would have been cool with that, even the media. Besides, Mangini's not one to worry about what the media says or prints. For some strange reason, he elected not to put Clemens in there. Perhaps he never considered it, or perhaps he did but decided not to.

I just thought it was a perfect time to insert him in there and see what he could do. Look at what New England discovered after inserting Tom Brady. Or, more recently, what Dallas discovered in Romo. You never know how precious the jewel is until you polish it and put it up to the light.

Ramsey represents no risk to the status quo. He could have thrown for a TD on that one play and nobody in the crowd would have done anything but cheer when Chad re-entered on the next series.

You put Clemens in there and he does something special and the crowd would have been wondering a bit.

And I somewhat agree with the original poster. It's late in the season and Chad has not gotten hurt yet, that's a bit of an upset, although a pleasant one.

Fragile, eh? I'd like to see 1/2 the quarterbacks in the league get up from the manhandling Mario Williams dished out yesterday.

What really surprised me was that penny's balls had some zip to them; I mean some real noticeable zip more so then any time I?ve seen him throw. This was a complete game in all phases (Wish we had a run back) I had been saying that the jets would go to the # 2 guy if penny goes down or is benched due to performance so to me it was the right choice putting Ramsey in; and on that note it looked like they were going for a play instead of handing the ball off till Chad came back in, That?s balls baby. I realize that this was the Texans but it?s real enjoyable to see your team operating on all cylinders.:jets: :jets:

Kind of a dumb thing to post isn't it? Even if anyone is interested in discussing it, there's nothing to realyl discuss at all...it's pure speculation, and horrible stupid speculation at that.

Would putting the 3rd QB in then not mean we couldn't go back to Pennington? I can't remember the window for that.

Absolutely correct. Clemens was inactive as 3rd QB. Put him in and neither Pennington nor Ramsey can come back in.

Another scenario to consider is that the play Allocated to Ramsey was a bomb down the middle , If Clemens was in at #2 and made that play , most people would want him to stay in , and the problems that that would cause right now we don't need , not at this stage of the season.
