Bryan Thomas = Improving impact player Jerricho Cotchery = Near Pro Bowl receiver Dewayne Robertson = Terrific nose tackle year Cedric Houston, 6th round steal Kerry Rhodes, mid-round Pro-Bowl steal Vilma, Barton, Coles, Baker all on his watch. The list keeps going...Bradway did a good job bringing in talent. Now that we have a staff that can "coach them up", recognize that Bradway did a good job in this regard. Tangini has added to it, and they are doing a great job. But how about some props for Bradway.
Aight... I am willing to admit that he is one of the better SCOUTS in the league. Bradway the GM? Don't even go there.
No Bradway was horrible. The new coaching staff is just amazing. They adjusted, and have designed schemes around each players' talents. Somehow it is working. I give Bradway credit for Rhodes and Vilma though.
I always felt that half of Bradway's failure was Herm's flat refusal to play some of his acquisitions. But the other half was just not giving a crap about his job.
dumbway's drafts sucked before jessie kaye became the chief scout. don't forget ignoring the o-line in the first 5 rounds for 4 straight drafts.
I think it is pretty clear that there are a few players he drafted that are developing nicely. Whether we should have drafted them or not can be argued, but his picks are less "worthless" than a lot of haters would have us believe. The thing is, what good does it do to buy groceries, if you aren't going to eat them?
Bradway was neither the utter retard most people paint him nor a genius. He was an average GM that hit as often as he missed.
I am happy with the new staff also...this is no knock at Tangini at all. GM's do 3 things...bring in players, manage the cap, and hire coaches. Ultimately, the Jets never had cap problems when it came time to persure players (even this year, Bradway was always quoted as saying the media was hyping the cap problems, which turned out to be true). They have talent (remember that Herm had them 1 kick away from AFC Championship game), and he is the majority reason why. When you read these boards, you get so much revisionist history. No GM or coach is perfect (Parcells signs Vanderjagt for 3 mil and cuts him?), so you can find mistakes with everyone. Bradway did a good job.
Correct. Bradway had/has a great eye for draft-day talent. Rhodes and Cotchery being his 2 late round gems. Where Bradway failed as a Gm was within free agency decisions and cap management. The position he has now within the franchise is perfect for him.
I also have to agree with you. His drafts, in essence, weren't all that bad as far as skill goes. A lot of the problem with it was the way Herm utilized or failed to utilize it. Bradway was horrible with contracts for free agents and re-signing players, though.
When did the Jets ever have Cap issues? The most publicized issue was the Redskins raid. I think it is safe to say that the Jets got the best of that deal. As for free agency, where is the failure? Barton, Kendall, Graham are all his. McCarrens was not a great pickup, but he was trade. I repeat, he was a better than average GM.
Overly long term deals given to Chrebet, Marvin Jones, and C-mart put us in alot of binds. Big deals given to the likes of Aaron Beasely, Damien Robinson, Steve White, Lance Legree and Derrick Blaylock were not well served either. It's pretty obvious that Bradway's strength is in evaluating young talent, not in making important financially impending franchise decisions.
They can get 15 years, it doesn't matter. The size of the bonus is the only guaranteed sunk money, and I don't think Legree or Blaylok will put the Jets in cap hell. You can go around the league and look at these mid-tier free agent moves...I bet they are 50/50 everywhere. I mean, is Deion Branch a top 5 receiver? How is Damien Woody doing? Pats glad they spent the money they did on Rooselvelt Colvin? How is Lamont Jordan making the Raiders front office look? No team hits these 100% of the time, neither did Bradway. You have to look at the body of work as a whole.
How much dead money is tied up in these deals? Question the impact of the players, but these were not cap choking deals that shape a franchise for years to come.
Near pro bowler on Cotchery is QUITE OVEREXAGGERATED, but he's becoming a very solid #2. Houston.. I'm not sold yet. Rhodes.. I'd agree. We still overpaid bgi time for Robertson.
