The truth is the Jets are only a consistent outside pass rush away from having a top 5 defense .....Adams, Maye, Johnson, Lee, Williamson, Jenkins, Anderson, Williams. Very solid core and mostly young too.....just need that consistency .
Early in games i agree 3rd down penalties and blown coverages have been a hard one to take so far I warned but i think people forget how hot/cold our defense and offense was in 09 Agreed our defense and offense together have both been weak in the adjustments dept 3rd and long hasnt been the issue 3rd and anything in clutch moments / tight games has been.
I called it early on lmao I still say people just don't remember how slow our defense was coming out of the gates. The Steelers game the Colts game? or defense folded both years not to mention games early on in 09 teams walked the field on us with ease. Again the 09 comment was the team overall not solely defense
Oh by "coming out of the gates" I thought you were referring to early in the 09 season. Against the Colts in the 09 playoff game, our defense was great in the beginning of the game, it fell apart as the game went on.
It was pick up on my earlier comments how they went hot and cold all season how for the 3 straight games we lost in the first 6 our defense came out cold. Then brought up how they also were the ones who folded in the playoff games. Lots of people like to remember the afcg runs we made back to back as really positive season. 09 fell to us after some very rough patches That season was so roller coaster. Not to far off from this year. The player types positionally are very similar. The performances are not far off so far. 10 was things actually started clicking for us and we put multiple win strings together
My first thought was, Hey, no one's going to flamm you for simply stating facts. It just goes to show how wildly different you and I see things, Dierk.
IMO, the biggest reason the penalties seem overwhelming is because they constantly occur on 3rd down plays where our defense gets off the field. We had two big ones against Miami where we got sacks and a penalty negated them. Another one or two against the Browns (the 2 point conversion they called holding on Mo Claiborne).
I hate stats posted like this that do not provide a comparison of who is ranked #1 in these spots and how much of a difference there is between being ranked 15th rushing yards per a game and ranked #1.
This thread will be the new whipping boy for the season. Every other game it will get bumped, well done OP.
Why should you get flamed for this post. The D has been solid. Sam is a rookie and has been decent in wins and terrible in losses. In the case of Jacks they are simply better than us on both sides of the ball and it's not close. No shame in that, they had a ton of good early draft picks and coupled it with a free agent spending spree. We are set up for the spending spree, we just need Sam to become a consistently good NFL QB.
The flame job i knew would come from the 09 team comparison. Alot of Jets fans have a warped sense of how good we were that year. lol that was so bad lol 100% agree While i agree the run defense has been far worse than it has been far better . That third down stats seems skewed. As if we only give up 3rd down conversions 36% of the time but give up 3rd and short 76% of the time. Doesn't that say we have teams stuck in 3rd and long a vast majority of the time? Hopefully for a better reason rather than worse lol They have been great in some areas and flame worthy in others. It's still early enough to get some of the bugs worked out though and that's where my hope still lies.
2018: Bowles defense: Fast, smart players that communicate and reacts well to what the offense is showing. Reactionary defense. 2009: Rex Ryan defense: Imposed their will on the offense and determined the flow of the game. Opposing offense were forced to game plan due to Rex's band of lunatic thugs. Attack defense.
