I wasn't aware of the finger injury which would put things in a different light. Still, not All Pro material, but if he can fix the snapping issues, maybe that will help his blocking.
Long was injured last year around game 4. PFF actually had him rated very high the first 3 games in 2017 (small sample size, I get it). I think he can be good, and this whole line is getting used to playing together, as well as playing in this new zone blocking scheme. Barring injury, knock on wood, I think this o-line will def play better as the season progresses.
The Scary thing is .... he was lol. The center depth in FA was terrible this offseason. With Sullivan resigning with the Rams and Paradis getting tendered by the Broncos the rest of the group was either coming off injury or simply not all that good. Richberg, Pouncy and Swanson had huge health concerns and the rest of the group was below average by NFL standards.
And Sams still completing almost 60% of his passes on the season. Imagine if he had a guy who could snap him the ball.
Long is not the long snapper. He is the starting center. He is also supposed to be playing with an injured hand the last two weeks.
I've mentioned this numerous times but Long is not a natural center. He was a guard up to a couple of seasons ago when he was switched. He is better suited for guard - don't be surprised if he really is rotated back to guard after the OL is revamped this coming off season.....
I said before i would really like to see Winters and Long swap positions. Winters did a pretty damn solid job filing in for Nick when he ent down with the ankle injury
Irony: Poster complains about recurring reference post, while poster's signature includes a much much much older recurring reference post.
