There has to be some accountably for all his horrible drafts and free agent signings and it needs to come at the end of the season or this franchise will be set back another 4 years. You cannot give this guy another $130MM to waste on useless free agents and a draft opportunity of having a top 3 pick that should be parlayed in multiple draft picks by moving back 2 spots throughout the entire first round since we need players and not any one player. If only Bowles goes and this loser stays Jets fans should just move on because the mistakes he could make this offseason will set the team back another 4 years before the next guy can try to fix it. Sign Elliot Wolf as GM and let him pick his coach and build his scouting department and team this off season. It is so sad our owners do not see what they need to do. Instead they have a shit team that starts off with a few wins last season so they quietly extend the contracts for Maccagnan and Toilet Bowles for 2 more years for no reason.
The media likes him so he avoids the heat. Bowles and co. are the designated scapegoats. I think Casserly has a lot of friends working in the media that's just my opinion.
I dont know who Elliot Wolf is but I liked the rest of your post...his name sounds like a writer or detective
Agreed. This season has shown that we have fundamental issues with the entire operation. From our scouting, drafting, free agency contracts, to coaching, the whole thing sucks. Replacing Bowles is only half the problem
The Jets have promising new very young QB, an almost full compliment of (likely very high) draft picks, and a shit-ton of cap space. When are we going to be in a better position to attract a top GM candidate????
Had to look up Eliot Wolf. So you want to hire the guy who's Father gave us Bowels and Maccagnan? Sorry, pass. Next candidate.
It’s interesting to think about. The Johnsons have now brought in consultants twice to aid in making high profile selections for the organization, and both times they’ve failed. So, the real question is: were the consultants wrong or are the Johnsons just to inept or apathetic to build a successful franchise.
I dont think it matters who stays or who goes unless ownership understands that the team’s issues are systemic & changes are needed at the highest levels. There is an endless cycle of piss poor roster management, false bravado(likely fueled by ownership trying to sell tickets)conservative inept coaching which leads to players checking out w a lack of discipline & a lack of passion. And then on top of it ownership that sets no standard for success. You cant have bad players with bad attitudes with bad coaches under “aw shucks” ownership & expect to be anything but subpar. Are the Johnsons tired of being embarassed yet? Are they ready to drop the back paper battle for PSLs to finally try & win something? Unless that fundamental change transpires it doesnt matter what happens. No coach/GM/Prez is coming here thats worth a damn bc there is no standard for winning & its the same lousy product over & over again.
Or that guy that Woody hired to interview coaches and GM candidates. His Dad is Ron Wolf the doucebag that has us in this mess right now. Along with Charlie Casserly. Two old dinosaurs that recommended a coach who's mindset is is in the '70s
The problem is the Johnsons have no clue on who to hire as a GM and would then have to hire a consultant again..I have soured on Mac but I think the smart thing to do at this point is let him hire his coach and give the duo a few years.
I wish we'd can him now tbh and do our due diligence on a GM candidate right away. Hopefully get a hire in the coming weeks and give them extra time to get scouting set up for the draft. I know Scot McCloughan is a bit problematic with his alcohol issues, but in terms of being an NFL mind/executive, he's done a great job in SF, Seattle, and Washington IMO.
Scott McCloughan would be an ideal candidate. He can spot players up and down the draft and started studying film when he was 7 years old and watched with his father who was a DB for the Raiders. He would be an amazing choice but if the Johnson's have any input you can forget about it.
Frankly, I don't care who replaces him as long as McCagnan goes! Terrible drafts, bad resignings of over the hill jets fitz, revis, wilk, bad free agents signings, look at their current roster! I am surprised that there is even a DISCUSSION of whether MacCagnan should be fired/retained. Last three years 5-11, 5-11 and most likely 3-13 this year. Whatever happened to showing improvement or progress?????? Keep this idiot and let's try for 2-14 in 2019 and 1-15 in 2020... No wonder the jets under McIdiot are the laughing stock.
we HAVE to get an offensive minded coaching staff and philosophy in place - I mean look at this from today's power rankings on nfl.com (we continue to sit at #31 - thanks Cardinals) The league average passer rating is 94.7. Steve Young led the NFL with a 97.2 rating in 1996. Not even 20 years ago, a great TD-to-INT ratio was considered to be 2:1. Aaron Rodgers is cruising along at 20:1. Brees? 14.5:1. Russell Wilson is sporting a 5:1 figure. Jared Goff is at 4.3:1. Ditto Philip Rivers. Patrick Mahomes is at 3.7:1. To put this all in perspective, Dan Marino retired having thrown approximately 1.7 touchdowns to every pick. Think about that. Dan freaking Marino. You cannot have success with a good QB and a willingness to throw (and to have people capable of catching those throws)
