The Jets announced they had re-signed tight end Neal Sterling, along with linebacker Brandon Copeland.

Sterling joined the in 2017, but missed the second half of the season on injured reserve after a concussion. He’s played 16 games the last two years, with 12 receptions for 129 yards.

Copeland had a career-high five sacks and 20 quarterback hits last season, bouncing back from a pectoral tear that kept him off the field in 2017.

What does that make, about 5 TE signed. I really like the Copeland signing good backup OLB , Sterling is good, but has concussion problems. Some of these TE have to go. Legget, Herndon, Sterling, Tomlinson, Brown, can't keep them all.

Said it in the other thread, but Sterling is one bad hit away from being scrambled eggs. I know he made some plays, but he's a poor man's Herndon catching the ball and doesn't do what Herndon does in the run game. Hopefully we don't put too much faith in a guy with so many concussion issues.

Copeland is a great depth signing.

Interesting. I thought with signing the other blocking TE, Sterling would be good as gone. I'm happy to hear Copeland is back.

Sterling isn't even a good blocker if I remember correctly. I wouldn't be shocked if he doesn't even make it to the final roster.

Like everyone is saying. Copeland great resigning. Nice depth at the d-end olb position. Seems like a good teammate and great story off the field. Happy I can continue to root for him.

Sterling I love the way he plays. It's really ashame with the injuries and concussions. Thought he could be a great number two tight end. I am surprised he is still playing after last year. Thought he'd call it a career. Hopefully he has no more concussions and plays well.

Two good resignings. Not going to put us over the top but they will help.

I think Copeland at the end of the day is definitely a depth piece, but he's proved he can start.

Well I found another way to tell if this team is finally going to turn the corner.......Tomlinson and Sterling both do not make the final roster. They're just retreads......

If/when Herndon is suspended, Sterling is a nice guy to have on board. The second Herndon is back, Sterling should go. Tomlinson shouldn't make the roster period.

Herndon facing a suspension, Tomlinson and brown are special teamers and leggett is entering a make or break camp. We’ll probably keep 3 after Herndon is back from suspension
    Herndon
    Leggett/sterling
    Brown/ Tomlinson

I wouldnt be surprised if we drafted a tight end late round again also. Mac seems to like picking athletic tight ends late. I would love having two great tight ends for Sam to throw to.

I fully expect the Jets to keep 4 TEs. Gase likes to run 2 TE sets, so that means one additional backup, plus I think the Brown signing was just for STs. I would expect him to only play in the offense if a couple of the other TEs are injured. Unless Leggett gets injured in TC and misses time, I fully expect him to make the team. I think the fourth and final TE spot will come down to Sterling and Tomlinson, and I think Sterling makes it over Tomlinson (unless the Jets draft a TE, in which case both could be gone). I'm hoping that the Jets draft a TE in the 4th or 6th round or sign one as a UDFA who is a very good blocker, and would prefer him on the roster over either Tomlinson or Sterling.

Copeland played very well for us last year, but can he repeat it? I think I would rather have had Shane Ray, and know I would rather have had Shaq Barrett.

Copeland will be a decent rotational LB for the Jets this year - spelling our amazing rookie Josh Allen ......:)

Gronk will come out of retirement and sign with the Jets... of course that won’t happen. Still think the Jets need to draft another TE or hybrid player.

Copeland is a solid resigning. Anyone keeping the count of the roster?

I hope you're right. He played very well last season. Of course, I would be very happy with Josh Allen!
