If he produces in Sept thru Dec which gets us to watching Jets football in Jan and hopefully that 1st Sunday in Feb than I couldn't give a shit what he is doing in May.
that formula did not make him one of the best running backs in the league. LeVeon Bell is his best when he is humble and shows up to all practices and gets in game shape. 2014, best year of his career by far - also the only year he didn't miss anything In 2015, he spent some time suspended and away from the team for his legal troubles. When he came back he was out of shape, torn his knee, missed most of the year 2016- He has to be away from the team for the first month for his weed suspension. The first month and a half (other than the KC game) after he came back he was not the same player (2~~3~~ yards per carry). It wasn't till November until he got in game shape and he lit the league on fire 2017 - he skipped training camp (contract dispute). The 1st month of the season he was not the same player. Once he got in game shape he did well but that was late October. He thinks he has a "formula" but he doesn't. He missed all of last season and the Jets still gave him $52 million. The least he could do is show up for team workouts.
In 2016 he rushed for 1268 yards and caught 75 passes for 616 yards in 12 games. That's insanity. And if you claim he didn't even get into game shape until November, then holy shit did he have the greatest two month run in NFL history. In 2017 he was still one of the best backs in the league regardless of when he turned it on. Between weeks 1 and 3 he only ran the ball 25 times total. Bottom line: who gives a shit? He's still one of the best RBs in the NFL no matter what his offseason plan is.
I don't like it. He's getting paid big money. He's a veteran. It's a team game. Be a leader from day 1.
He DID have the greatest 2 month run in NFL history at the position in 2016. -835 rushing yards just in the final 6 games of the season. almost 140 rushing yards per game. insanity is right. The first 6 games after he came back from his suspension from the team he had only 433 yards. He was out of shape and slower. 72 yards per game. LeVeon Bell is a better player when he is in shape. He's in better shape when he's in the football facility. If he comes out of the gates slow this year, we will know why
i think he will be fine , you dont hire leveon bell as a leader he is a playmaker with a me type personality you dont need 22 leaders on field.
David Johnson was the best all around running back in the NFL in 2016. 373 touches for 2118 yards and 20TD's. He has never been the same since. He got hurt in 2017 came back in the best shape of his life last year and was a shadow of what he was. Bell needs to get in contact shape.
Disagree, he is a leader regardless. Every young player will be watching him and his habits ever day, including how he carries himself, studies film, etc., etc., etc.
I don't think this is necessarily true. Big name players don't have to be leaders just because they are a big name player. Not everyone is Larry Fitz.
So now I'm "that guy"?......just call me a shlub. I just said it woulda been nice if Bell had attended.
For all of his production and all the talent around him the Steelers as a team underperformed their talent while individuals had amazing production.
It's not on Bell but the idea that individual production by itself is all that matters doesn't work in most team sports with the possible exception of baseball. Bell's production and the production of the O is based on teamwork. There is a codependency in football that is undeniable.
The steelers had a soft defense and a QB who throwed 5 ints in a single game from time to time , Bell and brown were part of the solution not the problem.
