Sorry for being Debbie Downer for ya, but I really don't know if this is a good thing or not. If anything, preseason stats are completely meaningless. I was hoping Sam would use this chance to test what his WRs can do. I was hoping he'd do risky stuff. That's what Aaron Rodgers does during preseasons and practices.
You’re right, preseason stats don’t mean much. The tape can give you some perspective on how a player looks though Sam made some big boy throws this preseason and it jived with what we were hearing in the camp reports As for what Rodgers does, he has a qb master degree. Sams still working on his BA.
I’d much rather have him play 16 fully healthy games and just beat him. The dude’s won 6 titles, there’s nothing we can do to take that from him. But the most satisfying thing we can do to him is make him realize his worst nightmare: leaving the game as a loser. An injury would give him an excuse.
Sam looked really good at times, but threw a few head scratchers that has me concerned. His stat line SHOULD read 2 TD, 2 INT (one a pick 6). He also almost got his WRs killed a few times throwing short. Overall, I'll keep him, but I do have some concerns.
Gonna need to see the video evidence on that one. Let me know which of these fits that description because I'm not seeing it: https://www.newyorkjets.com/video/h...-sam-darnold-s-completions-from-the-preseason
WRs are gonna get hit. there is a big difference in fitting a ball into a tight window where the WR is in a position to protect himself compared to leaving a WR high and dry.
So Sam fits the ball into a tight window and the WR gets tackled as he catches it... that's him almost getting his receivers killed? Because that's the definition of the throw to Enunwa in the Falcons game that Gase called one of the best throws he's seen. Also anyone with eyes and a brain call it one of the best throws they've seen.
yup sam is very good at throwing into traffic and placing a ball where his WR can make a play on it while ebing protected. the only time a QB makes a "bad throw" is when we see them leave a WR high over the middle in traffic and they get blasted, although thats a penalty now lol
preseason is so hard to discern. yeah, Darnold's looked comfortable but the other teams aren't blitzing much or trying to bait him into interceptions either
