Since the salary cap announced today was slightly lower than the earlier projection we are already over. Unfortunately Rontez Miles becomes the odd man out. Adding someone simply means losing someone else that we already have. It is not too hard to tweak a couple things to keep us under the cap if we do need to add someone else. Looking at the big picture, fixing all of our problems this year is just not possible. We will be looking to upgrade LT, WR, CB, and possibly G in the next couple years. Our cap space and draft picks should be more than adequate to fill those needs while also adding talent elsewhere. OLB and backup QB could be possible upgrades in the future if I was wrong about the players I selected at those positions.
Good effort and a nice read. I do understand why you have selected the 30+ guys but I feel that so many of them is a backward step and the need to be a younger fitter team is paramount. Also seemed to be a few pass rushers in there as well in all areas FA, re-signings and one in the draft as well, do we need so many considering we have none now? lol I think I would still like an OT with our number one draft pick but I do concede that CB is more than a gaping hole for the Jets.
Yeah this was a great read first off. Not necessarily a fan of Tee being a top the depth chart. I like Laviska Shenault as a WR that may drop just a tad. I’d also like to grab a WR in FA to take the pressure off whoever the jets do draft. If Robby isn’t retained, go after Perriman who can be had on a cheaper deal. I just want SAM to have good weapons to throw to. so if you can enter camp with Robby/Perriman, 1st/2nd WR like Higgins/ Shenault/ whoever, Crowder, Smith...I like that much better. I’d also like to grab a speed scat back like a Boston Scott for example to loosen up teams and as a just in case For Bell. Just want more explosiveness. I like CJ just not sure it’s in the cards to draft one high like that. But I get the value point there. Like the offensive line work though.
Thanks for the feedback, I am glad you liked it. Our outside pass rush has been a joke for so long I guess it is a pet peeve of mine. Also, I mentioned that my strategy involved not just an average defense but an elite defense.
I did the mock draft first but with the depth at received in this draft I was going to draft at least two of them making free agent receivers a lower priority. Also the free agent receivers that I liked were way too expensive.
Thank you for the hours and hours (and hours!) you put into this. I enjoyed reading through all of it. I want your opinion. How would it work as a GM to trade down (more than once), even out of the 1st, every year and end up with 4-5-6, even 7 picks in the 2nd and 3rd rounds? Ideally, trade down for NEXT year's draft, or even the year after that, where GMs are more likely to part with premium picks they would never part with in this draft. For example, trade down from 11 to 19 now for 2021's AND 2022's 2nd. Then trade down again from 19 to 25 for another 2022 2nd and maybe a 2023 4th. On and on. There's always a GM or 2 on the hot seat who feels he needs to land a certain player to save his job THIS year, and is willing to part with significantly MORE draft capital as long as it's far into the future. Let's take advantage of that. We'd miss out on the Quinnen Williams, but would we'e have twice as many premium picks as any other GM. Look at how excited we are to have an extra 3rd this year. Imagine if that were EVERY draft x10! I know the NFL is a WIN NOW league which maked this strategy almost impossible to implement, UNLESS you are a new GM with a lot of draft capital to start out with AND a guaranteed 6 year contract! Can you think of anyone? What you think?
Very well thought out offseason game plan. Few issues I have. I would not trade our first round pick and I believe the Raiders would want Henry Ruggs anyway. If CeeDee Lamb is there we should take him. I thought we signed CJ Mosley to a huge multi season contract last year? Zuniga from Florida. We took an OLB last year with questionable attitude. We should steer clear of any more of those types (best as possible). I like your offensive line plan. Would like your receivers options without Tee Higgins? If Anderson leaves we need some talent for Sam. No use beefing up the offensive line if Sam doesn't have legit targets. Still a great thoughtout offseason plan Hasty.
We should miss out on the Quinnen Williams type of bust every year. Jets need to stop taking bums like him.
Draft picks don't win championships. Look at what Idzik did with all those draft picks. That's one problem with your idea. The second problem is the success rate of picks relative to the round #. 1st round picks are by far the most successful, but not guaranteed - 53% succeed as playing regularly for their team for 3 years or more, but the higher the pick, the greater the success, and the lower the pick the lower the success: Picks #1-5 = 77.1%; 6-10 = 51.4; 11-15 = 57.1; 16-20 = 54.1; 21-32 = 27.0% ---these are the average rates for the years 2011 - 2018. But beyond those general rates, the success is affected by positions. Here's an article that lays this all out in detail: https://www.arrowheadpride.com/2015...e-statistics-tell-us-about-the-draft-by-round Finally, draft picks are only as good as your scouting and GM are. We'll see how Douglas, but the Jets scouting has left a lot to be desired. TBH, I think that's greatly affected by the fact that Jets have not adopted a "blueprint" of what a "NY Jets Player" looks like, which leads to a patchwork of players with no cohesive strategy. Draft picks ARE important, but simply trading down to accumulate more of them isn't a good strategy.
I didn't simply trade down and stack up draft picks. I targeted two high second round picks (basically low first round picks) while only moving down 8 spots in round one. Feedback regarding the mock off-season is desired but comparing what I did to Idzick doesn't seem to ring true.
I wasn't responding to your post, I was responding to Footballgod's suggestion of trading down and stockpiling sub-first round picks.
Great preparation, however... 1 - Snacks total waste of money and is contemplating retirement. We already have a NT. Can't rush the passer. Not a fan of Beasley either. 2 - WR corps is questionable at best and took a step back. Higgins is OK, ideally Crowder is your guy in the slot. 3 - Liked your offensive line approach and creating depth. 4 - I also think there are a lot of players you are burying on the depth chart that have a shot to be starters. Austin, Foey Fatukasi to name a few. Taking 2 corners early and 2 receivers late spells bad allocation of how this draft will play out.
They need to upgrade the Back-Up QB position. Can't risk the season being ruined because Sam gets injured. Need a capable replacement. Trevor Siemian did nothing in the Browns game then missed the rest of the season. I would rather not depend on him in 2020.
