Man, what could have been...... Here's the link to the article: http://www.huntingtonquarterly.com/Issue29/ready.html
I've heard that Chad messed up his shoulder in his first couple years trying to compete with Vinny, and that his current shoulder problems go back to that. With a healthier shoulder he could have upgraded his arm strength and made for an A+ QB.
It's just a rumor that has been mentioned on this board a number of times. I'm not quite sure if it's true and I can't cite any sources, but it makes some sense.
Well Moss adores Chad from their Marshall days. That has to say something for him. I blame bad mechanics for Chad's weak shoulder. He throws off the wrong foot. In effect, I have to blame poor coaching, since isn't it really a coach's job to fix that?
i have a good feeling that Chad will resurrect his career under Mangini and having Schott. as the OC....i would start a thread about this but i know where it would end up going....down the crapper
I agree with you DaJets. Most people are dead set on believing Penny was only restructured to save us from the terrible cap-cut. The thing is, I think the CS wants to see what he can do. We already know he is a good West Coast style QB. That offense doesn't require him to send 40 yard rifles downfield, so his arm strength isn't as much a concern right now. He has the three qualities to make him successful again: 1) Leadership 2) Accuracy 3) Ability to sell the play fake like no one else in the league.
yea, he had some potential to be a stud with his intelligence and superior accuracy and decent arm strenght (yea, i said it, he did have some strength), but no one could have foreseen him [probably] messing up his shoulder while competing for a starting job, then breaking his hand/wrist, then tearing his rotator cuff, then tearing his rotator cuff......... thats the jets in a nutshell
Okay, this is insteresting. I've never heard this before about messing his shoulder up due to competing with Vinny. It's definitely worth looking into. One question I would have is: did this start happening during his rookie year under Groh, or his 2nd year under Herm and Hackett?
i doubt that is the case. it's probably more that he had one or two three 270 lb. linemen slam his body into the turf. just my guess....
yea i agree he would always fall the wrong way when he got hurt. Just bad luck. Its a shame he could of been so good had he not got injured.
OK, I really don't get it. How is it possible to mess up your shoulder by trying to throw deep? I mean,I just don't get it ?
I never saw hi m in College, but I think he never had the arm to go 50yd deep. So this is not a question about trying to hard, and a natural "lack" of arm strength ( Of course his arm is not that weak), and maybe AlioTheFool is right about the throwing motion thing
Yeah, I agree. It is completely irrational thinking. I mean, the guy is an NFL QB. You're telling me he is going to injure his shoulder by throwing the ball deep when he's 22 years old?? It's not like the guy was in his 40's and had to be careful not to push his shoulder too hard....
Alio, seen your post here and had to respond. You are on the money here buddy! The Three qualities you list of Chad are the reason I see him being around the Jets for a few seasons yet. Haven't seen anyone sell that play fake like Chad since the outstanding Steve DeBerg.
