We lost half our team and were playing w/ a 4th string QB and we both finished w/ the same records and we BEAT you. The odds are we will be better quicker than you guys will. Even if you get duante he improves the record by a few games but he will also choke when the games get big so what are you really gaining?
it's achoice of paying alot mroe money for a QB that won't take you anywhere or alot less money for a QB that won't take you anywhere. I'd stick w/ Collins and spend my money to improve the team around him.
Well, first, Collins is a 12 mil cap hit, so that does not work. Second, once Daunte hits the FA market after Minn releases him, he can be signed to a very friendly cap deal according to the new rules where the signing bonus can be spread over 6 years. Second, given the past histories of the two teams, it is a stretch for a Jets fan to believe that his team will improve faster than the Raiders. History is just not on your side on that deal. But all of that aside, I still think Daunte will improve some team this next season if given a chance, and I think it will be significant improvement. Again the track record shows that Daunte has the tools to do the job, and do it well.
How the heck can Collins be a $12 mil cap hit? You guys have been brutal since 2002, we have been down and back up again in that span. You can talk about 30 years ago all you want but the facts are the Raiders haven't been a great franchise and haven't sustained success since the early 80s. I know we haven't been good most of our existence but we have been one of the better AFC teams since '97. Sure he'll improve a team, they'll win a few more but down the stretch he'll fade and cost his team a playoff spot. He's a great fantasy QB but fantasy #s don't win Championships.
Yep, it's always Daunte's fault. Even when he leaves the field with a double digit lead with 3 minutes left and never sees the ball again, it's Daunte's choking that lost the game.
Nah, he was great leading them to 16 pts against that vaunted Arizona D when the Arizona D had given up 33 a game for 7-8 weeks. Great job daunte!
Culpepper has Miami Dolphins written all over him. He's good for 10, 11 wins and playing poorly in big games. If he goes to Oakland, that would be good, too.
You're right junc, it's absolutely Daunte's fault that the Vikings defense gave up almost as many points in 3 minutes as the Cardinals offense was averaging a game all year long(12 vs 14.75). You can't blame everything on the QB, and this certainly wasn't a "choke" by Daunte. He played well enough to win and had his team up by 11 points with 3 minutes left. The defense collapsed like it always does and the Vikings lost.
16 pts against a team giving up 33 a game, that's all we need to know. That's classic daunte in big games.
They gave up 28.25 on the year. Also their defense was very streaky and much much better at home, they had a few high 30s, 40+ type games which inflated their overall numbers. In week 3 they held the Packers to 13 points at home, and the Packers were 4th in the league in scoring that year. Their average on the year at home was only 21.375 a game so once again you try to blow facts out of proportion and distort them to fit your reality.

Upset by Daunte Culpepper's public attempts to force a divorce, Minnesota Vikings officials have determined to trade the unhappy quarterback and have ratcheted up their dialogue with possible suitors.League sources said that the Vikings, shortly after a Wednesday e-mail that Culpepper sent to several media outlets in which he acknowledged that he has requested to be traded or release, began calling clubs they feel might be interested in acquiring the seven-year veteran. ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports the Vikings are determined to trade Culpepper before the league's free agency period begins at 12:01 ET Saturday. One team believed to have discussed the possibility of dealing for Culpepper is Oakland. The Raiders last week released starting quarterback Kerry Collins, then rescinded the move when the league delayed the start to the free agent signing period. Collins' status with the team remains in limbo, in large part because of a prohibitive salary cap figure for 2006 that the Raiders would prefer to reduce. In his Wednesday e-mail, the fourth he has sent to Twin Cities and national reporters since last month, Culpepper wrote: "Now that I have confirmed that the Vikings have been seeking to trade me, I have asked for permission to speak to the interested teams. The Vikings have denied my request. If a trade does not happen, then I am asking the Vikings to terminate my contract as soon as possible." Minnesota was scheduled to pay Culpepper a $6 million roster bonus on March 17 as part of a contract enhancement new owner Zygi Wilf added to the quarterback's existing deal last summer. That date for the execution of the bonus is expected to be pushed back because of the delay in beginning the league year. Culpepper is due a base salary of $2 million for 2006.But the contract, which runs through the 2013 season, is just one of the several elements complicating any potential Culpepper trade. Culpepper, 29, continues to rehabilitate his right knee and, while he is said to have made substantial progress in his recovery, the injury was a severe one. Culpepper tore three ligaments in the knee in an Oct. 30 game at Carolina and has been rehabilitating in the Orlando, Fla., area. First-year head coach Brad Childress would prefer that Culpepper continue his rehabilitation at the team's facility.In addition, Culpepper still faces misdemeanor charges related to the so-called "Love Boat" scandal of last September, an incident allegedly involving some Vikings teammates. And, finally, Culpepper split during this offseason with longtime agent Mason Ashe, and has been representing himself. Any team interested in trading for Culpepper almost certainly would want to rework his contract. Ditching Daunte Vikings ready to trade Culpepper by end of weekend Posted: Thursday March 9, 2006 7:27PM; Updated: Thursday March 9, 2006 7:27PM By Don Banks, SI.com Daunte Culpepper's career as a Minnesota Viking is officially at the point of no return. Fed up with their disruptive and disgruntled starting quarterback, the Vikings have decided to trade Culpepper in the coming two days, a league source confirmed to SI.com. While the Vikings know they will not receive a windfall for Culpepper, who put up MVP-level numbers and went to the Pro Bowl as recently as 2004, they are at the point where they are willing to take anything decent in return for a player who this week asked Minnesota to either trade him or release him. Miami and Baltimore have been mentioned as possible suitors of Culpepper this offseason, but league sources say Oakland might be in the drivers seat in the pursuit of Culpepper. The Raiders traded with Minnesota last February for receiver Randy Moss, with whom Culpepper had his greatest success in the NFL. Oakland cut quarterback Kerry Collins last week in a salary cap move, but was able to rescind that transaction when the ongoing CBA negotiations prompted several delays in the start of free agency and left the 2006 salary cap figure undetermined. The Vikings have tried to be patient with Culpepper this offseason, and new head coach Brad Childress has made repeated efforts to build a relationship with the team's franchise quarterback. But to no avail, the league source said. "The relationship with [Childress] doesn't work,'' the source said. "They just don't hit it off.'' The Vikings face a less than teeming trade market for Culpepper in part because of his strange behavior and curious decision to have little or no contact with the organization this offseason, as well as him being in the midst of rehabilitation from a major knee injury, which ended his season last Oct. 30 in a loss at Carolina. Culpepper, 29, fired his longtime agent, Mason Ashe, earlier this offseason, and then several times asked the Vikings for a lucrative contract extension. The Vikings declined to consider a new deal until he returned healthy in 2006, but did intend to pay him a $6 million roster bonus that is due March 17. But those plans changed this week, when Culpepper responded angrily to an email he was sent by the team, going public with his demand for a trade or the termination of his contract. Vikings sources at the NFL Scouting Combine two weeks ago said the team had no intention of giving Culpepper away without receiving significant value in return. But his most recent pique of temper lowered the bar on what Minnesota would accepted in trade. League sources say the Vikings don't believe that Culpepper was orchestrating his own exit out of Minnesota, and instead cite his immaturity level and wounded pride as the impetus behind his at times bizarre behavior. Where do the cap-rich Vikings go from here on the quarterback front, once Culpepper is dealt? For now, Childress is very comfortable turning over the starting reins to veteran Brad Johnson, who played superbly in Culpepper's absence last season, winning his first six starts and going 7-2 overall. Minnesota also has some interest in exploring the market for San Diego starter Drew Brees, who is set to become the most sought after quarterback in free agency. Brees, however, has a rehabilitation of his own to contend with, having torn up his throwing shoulder in the Chargers' final game of the 2005 season. That makes the Vikings somewhat wary of pursuing Brees, who is thought to be Miami's top priority in free agency. The Vikings are probably more likely to pursue former Cardinals starter Josh McCown in free agency, or consider using a second or third-round pick on a quarterback, grooming him to take over for Johnson in a year or two. If McCown would join Minnesota, the Vikings could still use a second-day draft choice on a young quarterback prospect.
