He's the first QB in history to be pressured up the middle. In reality he has to find his outlet receivers and read pressure better. If they send 7 and you have 5 blockers and your back you need to throw it hot...

It’s not just pressure up the middle ... it’s play wrecking, immediate pressure, on almost every play. And i don’t think it’s because he’s not reading it. In most cases its because helmet on helmet, our center and guards are getting their asses handed to them by the man across the line ... and Fant won’t be making any All Pro teams. I’m not saying he’s a great QB ... or even a good QB. I’m saying it’s impossible to tell.

I can’t stand this coach and immediately said he was a God Awful hire, so I don’t want to make excuses for him BUT .... But if you’re only scoring 10 points every game in THIS league, a lot of it ... or most of it ... has to be because no matter what play is called, your offense simply can’t block it.

Burrow is playing behind the literal worst offensive line in the NFL. Sam is just not a good QB. Idk how much more evidence it will take until the excuses stop from our fans.

Simple Answer: Can we get the Pro Football Grade Evaluation of all 5 of our linemen this week ?

Let's see how they all graded.

Dude he threw like three balls into the dirt three yards in front of receivers in the second half with clean pockets by NFL standards.

Everyone here acknowledges the team sucks around him. But other quarterbacks have garbage rosters around them and maintain competitiveness especially at the end of games. He had two chances to go on game winning drives as the defense finally did its job this game. And again - he didn't get the ball past the 50. Did he even get a first down?!

We had the ball 5 times in the 2nd half.
We gave up 4 sacks, had an illegal formation negate a big first down completion to Herndon, a holding penalty negate a first down run by Sam, and a jailbreak that caused the game ending INT.

if you think that QB is the problem on this offense, then so be it.

On the flip side - if you think the QB's poor play is never the problem then I'm not sure what to tell you. The quarterback is responsible for protections and getting rid of the ball on jailbreak blitzes as much as anyone. It's not just always everyone else's fault all the time.

Teams don't just say oh well the QB got blitzed a lot so it's never his fault. Teams also don't blitz certain quarterbacks because they handle it well. Darnold handles it horribly and tries to throw deep 20 yard outs instead of slants over the middle when he's blitzed. That's why teams keep blitzing him.

TBF, he makes it worse because he holds onto the ball too long, and he doesn't read the field well. I think he just panics and locks onto his primary receiver and waits for him to get open and if he doesn't he gets sacked.

But Gase's play calling does him no favors either. He's so predictable, the defense can usually just pin its ears back and rush.

And again, when the camera is on Darold on the sidelines there isn't a coach within shouting - let alone whispering - distance of him.

Anyone still thinking Burrow is some sort of product of his environment? Or can everyone acknowledge that he has put that shitty franchise on his back and been a culture changer by himself?

That LSU team last year was once a generation like I said. Burrow on pace for 4K pass yards as a rookie, Jefferson on pace for 1k rec yards and CEH on pace for 1k rush yards. Just one of those special one year teams.

It looks like Burrow is a much better prospect than Darnold was. So was Mahomes, Watson, Jackson, but we didn't get any of those. What we got was a guy with a lot of potential who needed coaching up and who didn't get it, made worse by the shitty talent around him for 3 years...and oh, yeah, changing systems twice.

I'm sorry, but you saddle Burrow and the others with that burden and none of them would shine, and if the Jets don't get rid of Gase and get a LOT more talent on the "O", Lawrence won't succeed either. And if the Bengals don't improve themselves regarding coaching and talent quickly, Burrow might turn out to be the next Stafford.

I'm ok with moving on from Sam at this point, but he is not the biggest problem on this team.

What I'm saying is that with a better supporting cast/coaching, it looks more like Darnold would've topped out like 2017 Andy Dalton, 2014 Jay Cutler, 2013 Carson Palmer, 2011 Mark Sanchez, etc.

So yeah dude. He definitely would've been better than this current version with a better cast. But it looks a lot more like good coaching or bad coaching, he's not a FQB.

Teams can only hide QB's for so long before they have to win games. Look at Jimmy Garroppolo. He's awful this year because teams have figured out a way to slow that running game. They ran for almost 200 yards and 4 touchdowns in a route against New England and he still threw two picks of his 5 incompletions. Everything else was an underneath crossing route or a screen.

You shouldn't need to hide your QB behind better players.

Brad Nessler and Gary Danielson were talking about this during the Alabama vs. Georgia game a couple weeks ago regarding Stetson Bennett versus Mathis. They were down 7-5 at halftime to Arkansas. They make the switch to Bennett and suddenly receivers start catching balls they were previously dropping, the pass blockers are in the right protections, the runningbacks are breaking more tackles, etc. They won the second half 32-3.

It doesn't always make sense and it's hard to pinpoint what it is. But the "guy" just elevates the entire team. The Bengals have the same coach, the same shitty offensive line, they added a couple of receivers meanwhile their starting RB has been out back to back weeks as well as their left tackle. But everyone is elevated throughout the franchise. It just happens. And Darnold doesn't do that.

Well I'm going to agree with for the most part, but I also want to point out that different people mature at different rates. I'm not saying this will be true for Darnold, but it's completely possible that IF...IF...he had been put into a favorable situation, and brought along more gradually while he matured/learned - a la Aaron Rodgers - he might've become a guy who would be able to assert himself and carry a team on his back. That ship has in all probability sailed, but it underscores that massive failure of the Jets once again in preventing themselves from finding their FQB.

I'll always agree with the sit and wait approach honestly. Darnold should've sat and should've had a brand new coaching staff to grow with his rookie year. Let the guys get used to traveling as far as they do, the longer season, learn how to prepare like a pro, what the grinds like, etc. It's different for quarterbacks - every other position has such a limited window of durability that they need to play right away.

We also never should've let McCown go. He was a great mentor.

At the same time, some guys are good to go and more often then not the sink or swim approach is taken. Franchises and coaches in particular are also forced to take this approach because they need instant results to save their jobs.

The question will be: which type is Lawrence (or Fields)?

I think they're both ready to go given the programs they come from, the big games they've both played in and the weight that's been on both of their shoulders by the time they end up in the NFL.

Nothing against Clay Belton, but he's no Dabo Swinney or Ryan Day. Sam also needed another year. Neither of these guys look like they do.

Fields also plays against NFL style defenses every week. Lawrence does as well even though they're lesser quality than the Big 10. The PAC 12 plays all that 3-3-5, 4-1-6 stuff with awful defensive backs all over the place.

What about Herbert? Guy throws a beautiful deep ball on the bullseye, he’s not going to lose that starting job unless he gets injured.

As far as Sam vs. Joe, it can be both. He's a better prospect and in an overall better situation (even if it's still a shitty one due to that line, though he wasn't sacked once despite replacement players this week...)

Obviously with the chance to take a super elite franchise altering guy you go for it regardless of how young and salvageable Sam potentially is. A younger dude with stronger attributes and fewer question marks than who you've got when they came into the league is the right choice every time.

Joe Burrow had the greatest NCAA single season All-time (5th year) and he's showing why on an NFL level as a rookie; because he's going to develop into greatness and Trevor Lawrence is putting together one of the greatest NCAA 3 year careers of All Time and without question the greatest ACC career of All Time and once on an NFL level, we'll see why (because he's generational).

Unfortunately, Sam had 1 great game as a Freshman against Penn State during a Rose Bowl and non playoff game that immediately put him on the map however his college statistics and production were simply, meh and nothing like the numbers Peyton Manning/Burrow/Lawrence etc and other absolute can't miss prospects have put up.

Sam is just another USC NFL bust nothing more nothing less while Joe Burrow is lighting up the NFL as a Rookie QB behind an O-Line that's worse than our Jets. He's a baller who is amazing at processing information while reading defenses not only pre snap but after the hike.

Sam is one of the worst I've ever seen when it comes to processing information and reading coverages. Even worse than both Sanchez and Geno Smith in those regards it's truly sad. He reminds me more of Kellen Clemens IQ wise.
