For me, the Jets shit show started when they decided to get rid of every offensive piece around Mark Sanchez and the offense became a joke. Minus one year with Fitz/Decker/Marshall aside the offense has never recovered from that dismantling... 10ish stinking years ago.
Douglas confuses me. , I do not know much about him other than the moves he has made. When he first got here there were the moves he made for Khali and the handling of Osemele. neither really hurt the team but they were both very bad misses. When we hired him CJ Mosely ,R Anderson, Herndon, Sam Darnold, Adams, Bell and Q were our main assets, They were good building blocks at the time. Mosely gets hurt, and yes he will never be the same player after missing 2 yrs . The rest except for Q have sucked, except for Adams. At the end of the day for our nucleus of talent we got 2 late number 1s and a third. Herndon is done, Sam is done. So far all JD has done is brought in Becton ,who is a star and Mims whose stats are where he show be based on his draft status. He is ranked around 4th in Rookie wide out stats.JD had a decent draft, no a great one. Has brought our team to a new all-time low, and has supported Gase. We need to clean house. We are the worst team in the NFL. Everybody needs to go right down to CJs janitor. A total clean house. Bring in a Dorsey and build it all up. We need an experienced GM that can stand up to woody and CJ. A coach who is a manager who has good o- c coaches and d-coach. I really do not think JD is the answer, it seems Gase has more control over the team then he does. If you can not control a loser with Gases personality. how are you going to compete against the other 31 teams. JD has destroyed our team as much as Gase has
It all Went wrong when we hired Idzik. Rex went on a diet and our drafting was horrible from then on.
Great analysis ouchy. Given perfect hindsight it would have been better to just do nothing and draft Josh Allen when he came to us, plus use those high picks to support him. But we didn't. I'm also wondering why Gase having the eyes of a mass shooter apparently gave no one pause.
Under Rex and Tannenbaum first draft, the Jets selected Sanchez, Shonne Greene and Slauson, that’s it, three picks in the draft. That was the beginning of the end, Rex and Tannenbaum started a downward trend that Jets have not recovered from. No one was complaining about the Jets on this board when they were 8-3 under Mangini, the draft picks were playing well and contributing to a successful season and the team was playing awesome football.
Champ, I believe I already know where you stand on the matter, unless it’s a SB it’s not a successful season....
id start in 2008 with vernon gholston yikes... it really is a tragedy looking at those drafts. i remember was it terry bradway that was the gm, didnt work out at that postion and then stayed as the head scout? when did he leave? i remember it happening and it seems like it was around that time. oh wow it was only 2015 when he got let go.... granted things went from bad to worse for sure. players also havent been developed very well the past number of seasons. while most of the draft picks moved on and went team to team there are a few who really stood out once they left, leonard williams and demario davis being the most notable. guys like richardson have been solid players in the league as well. 2012 and 2014 were really really horrible drafts. gase whined about 2016 but lee, jenkins, burress and shell are all still active players in the nfl. you cant say that about 2014. out of 12 draft picks 1 of them is still in the league, and i am sure if i went back to 2018 it wouldnt be 5 or 6 that were still active the same number of years after they were drafted. just a sad and horrible joke this entire fucking franchise has been since the 2006 and 2007 draft.
Rex and Tanny beat Brady/Manning on the road in the playoffs and made back to back conference championships.. not a downward trend at all
That video showed what Sam is capable of and why some fans and people in the NFL still believe in him Post-Gase. It also shows how much Sam loved Robby Anderson. Losing him was huge for Sam this year as he hasn't quite gotten on the same page with Perriman or Mims yet. Getting mono wrecked the 2019 season and then this pandemic definitely hurt the 2020 season. Bad luck for Sam, but his future is still bright. Just needs the right coach and situation.
Rex took a team that was built by Mangini and Tannenbaum to playoffs, when it was his turn to help Tannenbaum build a team he was a disaster, he was a disaster in Buffalo as well and was beat out by Harbaugh a special teams coach for the HC position in Baltimore. He was a blowhard who lived in the past with his ineffective blitz schemes and antiquated offensive philosophies. That team that he took over was already trending up and becoming a consistently winning team, he just happened to be at right place and right time and rode the wave.
Some of this is true but the real issue is after we drafted Sanchez we went into win now mode with our cap and drafts. We signed quality FAs that we couldn't afford and structured the deals on the back end to basically destroy our cap in 2011-13. Add making dumb trades squandering our draft capital and we got the 2012 and 2013 seasons we deserved. 2010 was our one big chance and at least we got close. Or at least we knocked NE out of the playoffs. But ya after 2013 we have been just terrible at rebuilding. This next draft is going to be our 8th rebuilding season in a row.
Rex fired up that team and got the most out of his players those 2 years when we made the AFC conference championship. BTW that’s the 2nd best accomplishment the Jets franchise has ever had besides the ring. Idzik took that team that accumulated a bunch of picks (I believe 12) and missed on every one. Every one. That to me was the start of the dumpster fire of this past decade
