Charlie Whitehurst and Chase Daniels had a hell of a lot service on the NFL pension to hold the clipboard and be nice guys to hang out with in the film room. No wonder Flacco doesn’t want to retire.
I think the simple answer is he is a JD guy. JD tried to resign him during the off-season but got outbid. He saw an opportunity to add him and insure there is a backup plan for MW and he did. But, I think the motivating factor in the trade was to give the team the impression that the FO had not given up on them or the season. With such a young team that will have a lot more downs than ups they want to provide hope that if they keep working things will get better. Trading for Flacco and LDT sent a message that the FO is doing everything possible to help the team.
There is nothing wrong with JJ and an argument can be made that he has never got a chance in the NFL but he does not have much actual game experience while Flacco does. I don't like the idea of giving up a 6th for a guy who won't take a snap but I can understand the decision to bring in a guy with actual game xp. That being said both MW and JJ playing well is something to be happy about. I do wonder if Flacco will be on the active roster this week after practicing or will it just be MW and ZW?
Maybe the OP has a way to do a super secret trade that the league won't find out about. Shhhh, don't tell anyone.
