We are about a week away now from NFL Free Agency Kicking off. Time to put your predictions down electronically. WHICH players will the New York Jets sign? It is certainly impossible to guess all the players they will sign, but for conversation sake lets all try give 3-5 player names that we think Joe Douglas will sign (Not who YOU want to sign) Let's go! Like, comment, subscribe...all that crap
That is a really good and realistic list Penny. Well done. I think Arob even on a 1 year deal might be a bit pricey for JD. I think you are right on with your adds of Oluokun and Conklin My predictions are: 1. Kearse S 2. Tomlinson G 3. Max Williams TE 4. BJ Hill DT 5. Not sure on five. I love your pick of the LB from Atlanta but do not want to copy. I don't see a realistic WR that JD will be willing to pay. I even think Kirk might be out of his budget especially because he has played so much in the slot. My guess is he resigns Berrios and then waits to sign a cheap FA WR after the draft. The same for CB. Maybe he takes a cheap flyer on Heyward. But, I think unless he goes all in on Davis or Jackson he will sit tight on CB and add one in the draft.
I have been reading some really good thing regarding Maxx Williams. He is an excellent blocker and would be a big addition to the running game. I like where your head is at!
First, great job! Second, I really do agree with all of your choices, and would be thrilled if Douglas can pull these off. My only question is: can he? For example, Lakin Tomlinson - we saw that little blurb that said SF gave him what amounted to an extra game bonus, which to me indicates they want to keep him badly. But if JD can get him that would be a HUGE acquisition and really change the draft board for me. There might be better, long term answers at WR, but if he can get AR, that provides Zach with a reliable big time WR 1 right away, and JD needs to have Zach and the Jets show real progress this season, not two or three seasons from now. Also, getting a reliable TE who can block and catch the ball is a big plus and really helps the draft board. If they can add a stud from the draft then that sets up the TE room for a while and fills a gaping hole. Likewise, adding a good, young Safety gives a lot of flexibility in the draft. If they take Hamilton (which I'm not really in favor of), it simply means we go from having a terrible S room to having a really strong one. And finally, getting a young stud, proven LB would be a great addition. I give your suggestions an A+!
I think the Bears will re-sign Daniels. Because it makes so much sense. He may shop around a bit but stay in Chicago.
I don't think we'll splash and sign any top tier guys. i think we'll sing a couple of middle tier guys ad some fillers on 1 year prove it deals and cheap contracts. I do think we target a TE for sure. possibly a WR espcially if cooper is released I could see us making a run at him but likely end up with a T2 guy like chark or kirk
I suck at predictions, so am not gonna guess. There are so many different ways that JD could go in FA. If there is a plus to having so many holes, then this has to be it. It gives JD a lot of options, if some get tagged or don't want to sign with the Jets. I do think that JD will have to fix the OL in FA. There simply aren't that many starting caliber OGs in the draft, and none of them will likely fall where the Jets have picks in the 1st two rounds. Unless the Jets take Ekwonu or Neal, no other OG is worthy of being taken at #4 or #10, and neither Kenyon Green or Zion Johnson will probably be there at #35, so he has to fix RG in FA, and if he plans to do anything about C, then that as well. Instead of predicting, I'm just gonna list the FAs that I hope that JD will be able to sign. The FAs I'd like to see the Jets sign are as follows: C - Ryan Jensen or James Daniels (If he signs Jensen, McGovern probably gets released. If he signs Daniels, McGovern could stay or go, but if McGovern is released, then JD would need to sign LDT at RG. RG - LDT, hopefully some depth-type OG WR - Allen Robinson or Marquez Valdes-Scantling TE - Tyler Conklin or Robert Tonyan (but would be happy with Maxx Williams, Everett, Alie-Cox, or Firkser DT - DJ Jones S - Jayron Kearse or Quandre Diggs If we sign a CB: Chandon Sullivan, Donte Jackson, Casey Hayward, or Anthony Averett. If we sign a LB: either Foyesade Oluokun or De'Vondre Campbell.
Priorities should be the best WR we can find even if it seems costly and interior offensive line. If our two big acquisitions are on offense the draft should focus more on defense which might have more talent anyway,
According to what I'm seeing on Twitter, most people think Daniels will hit FA. Why does it make so much sense? Chicago's in a bit of turmoil/transition. Fields was pretty bad last year, worse than Zach and didn't show improvement towards the end of the season. I'm seeing on Twitter that people in the NFL are thinking that Field's elongated throwing motion is going to be a problem for him his whole career. The Jets are a team on the rise. They have a better QB, and utilize a blocking scheme for which he is a perfect fit. He could make more money and have a better shot at the playoffs with the Jets in a year than he would with the Bears.
What is really scary about Fields was the 12 fumbles in a very limited playing time. In many ways he looked impressive for such a raw prospect. But, he had the same problem that plagued him in college a complete lack of pocket presence and awareness. Zach had a lot of sacks thar were his fault but also saved a ton of sacks with his pocket awareness and was able to prevent fumbles. When Zach lost his confidence, early on, he lost his pocket awareness and ability to protect himself. For that short stretch he looked as bad as Fields. That being said don't write the book yet on Fields. He is an amazing athlete, hard worker with a huge upside. But for him to survive he will need to stop taking the kind of big hits he has been taking. Zach might be smaller but his awareness almost always allows him to avoid the big hit.
I'm not writing Fields off yet. I know how talented he is. I'm just saying that might be the perception that could cause Daniels to want to leave Chicago, or at least make his staying there in doubt.
Sorry if I was a bit unclear. I am struggling to stay awake at work today. I did not think you meant anything against Fields. I would be very happy to see us sign Daniels, Tomlinson or any upgrade at guard. I am not sure how much competition we will have. But, wouldn't it be amazing to go into the draft with a solid 5 man OL with no weak point in our starters?
