the Broncos are closing in on the detail work that will be needed to secure New York Jets defensive end John Abraham, a proven edge rusher Several sources in the league said Friday night they believed the Broncos and the Jets already had developed a framework for a trade before the extension of the collective bargaining agreement was announced, but both teams were waiting to see what the salary cap would be before moving on to contract negotiations. Those negotiations probably will take a few days, and as much as a week, before a deal could be completed. The Jets are seeking a first-round pick for the three-time Pro Bowl selection. The Falcons have the better first-round pick - 15th, as compared with either the 22nd or 29th picks for the Broncos - but the Broncos had been more aggressive. The issue, though, is negotiating a long-term deal with Abraham as well as negotiating the dynamics of making a trade for a player who already has been designated the team's franchise player http://www.rockymountainnews.com/drmn/nfl/article/0,2777,DRMN_23918_4533769,00.html
With the new CBA, the Jets can keep Abraham if they really want to, and other teams have more cap space to sign him. Weh ave more leverage then we did last week, and there is clear interest in Abraham from a couple other teams. I can't see this being #29 if it gets done. I'm thinking more like #22 + a late day 1 or early day 2 pick
Hugh douglas got us a 2nd and a 5th - or a 3rd & a 5th. Hugh was a good player that Parcellshad no faith in - he couldn't get rid of him quickly enough - sadly - for the Jets - he turned into an excellent player and team leader. IMO this was one of parcell's worst deals. Parcells has some bad\average drafts with the Jets - Dorian Boose and others flash in my mind. Parcells was a great FA signer with the Jets but the draft was average at best.
We have so many damn picks, if the falcons want abe and wants to part with theor first only why not? Id rather have the falcons pick then the broncos late first and second day pick. With the falcons we are assured mangold.
Actually, I would rather own more picks. At this point, for us, quantity is better than quality. With more picks, it opens more doors for us to move around in the draft. If we are dead-set on unloading a Pro-Bowl player, we should give ourselves more opportunities to grab ourselves a future Pro-Bowler.
Most reports say that the Falcons do not want to part with their #1 for Abe. To tell you the truth, the Doncos might be the only team actually offering a first... and if I'm MT, that's the only way I trade him to a conference rival that went pretty deep into the POs in 05.
I'm not sure the Falcons are all that interested in Abraham In other news, a source out of Atlanta indicated that the Falcons' interest in Jets' DE John Abraham has waned a bit because of his perceived asking price of some $18 million guaranteed. The source said the Falcons, after doing a lot of research on Abraham, are not concerned with his supposed "character issues" and more concerned about the money. The Falcons have the 15th overall pick in the draft and the source said there's "no way" Atlanta will trade that pick for Abraham http://www.nypost.com/sports/jets/62982.htm #22 Denver might be the best deal
mangold isnt going in the top 15.he is a 2nd rd pick. he may go late 1st but he is a early 2nd rd pick. Bentley and faine were better looking center propects coming out and carried higher grades and they both went in the 2nd round. its highly unlikely anyone drafts a center with the 1st 25 picks.
The Skins don't have a #1 but they were mentioned as possibility but not anymore Defensive ends John Abraham (New York Jets) and Anthony Weaver (Baltimore) did not appear to be in the team's plans, either http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/03/10/AR2006031001748.html
i agree at this point i would be shocked if abe doesnt go to denver.. they have 2 1st and there intrest is high enough to give up a 1st for abe..
Mangold will be picked in the 1st round sometime between picks 20 and the end of the first round, he's the best C prospect in the draft and there will be plenty of interest.
The Broncos are expected to be one of the few teams interested in the pass-rushing defensive end. Seattle, Oakland, Washington and Atlanta also have expressed interest http://www.denverpost.com/broncos/ci_3592076
Abraham has all the leverage. Abraham hasn't signed the franchise contract and you can't trade a player who is not under contract. If he gets a better offer than the Broncos are willing to give from another team, the Jets will have to try to get something from the team Abraham wants to go to or keep him for the year.
