Peter King was just talking on channel 4 (4:15 EST) and he said the Jets had the best salary cap situation of any team in the NFL for next year. They will be 28,000,000 under the cap and only one starter , Anthony Clement, is a free agent. Mike Tannenbaum continues to do a fine job.
NBC says Jets have the most cap room this offseason. On the NBC pregame show the guys were talking about cap situations this offseason and they said the jets had about 28 million in cap room which will be the best in the league with only one starter who is a free agent(Anthony Clement). They didn't say who the Jets could get, the guys were just talking about some of the colts players who were free agents and how little cap space they have. I knew we were good in terms of cap space but I had no idea it was the best in the league.
Suprised P. King didn't follow up by saying, "But the Patriots have $16 million under the cap, and that's more valuable because $16 million in the Patriots' hands is more valuable than $28 million in the pocket of the Jets.... By the way, did I tell you about my daughter's chess match last weekend."
Thats really good. One player that I want really bad would have to be LANCE BRIGGS. This guy is a monster and I think he would fit in our defense preety good.
It was good to hear, Tannenbaum worked a miracle with the cap. It's nice going into an offseason knowing your options are pretty much limitless.
I thought he would close with: "... By the way did I tell you about the eternal hardon I have for Bill Belichick and Tom Brady."
http://www.footballsfuture.com/2007/nfl/freeagents.html This is a list of top 2007 free agents... Who do people like?
Daniel Graham, UFA, New England Patriots Lance Briggs, UFA, Chicago Bears Asante Samuel UFA New England Patriots Ken Hamlin, UFA, Seattle Seahawks
This will be an interesting offseason I have a feeling alot of people on this board are gonna hate Tannenbaum during that big FA signing period, because we didnt sign all of the big FA with the money we have. Were most likely not gonna sign any big names if were going with the Patriot Blue Print. By the season start everything should be back to normal and goin good when we keep on winning games with our strong drafts.
Tony Gonzalez would be beautiful. He's an eric mangini type guy who can fit into the system and would fill a hole that the Jets have had for the last 5+ years
How is Tony Gonzalez an Eric Mangini type guy? Why do people throw that phrase out in attempts to convince us that their arguments are the best? It's getting ridiculous around here.
Don't expect them to start throwing money just because they have it. The idea is to build the team through the draft and cheap free agents. The may find one or two guys that they feel are worth a bit contract but don't expect them to buy 5 or 6 free agents just because they have th e money.
I really like Sands and I would like to see Eric Steinbach brought in to get some upgrade the interior of the o-line.
A couple of guys we could make a run at, assuming they weren't resigned already. I have no source, but these are the best players out their at our positions of need.
