Because we can all use something to get us to smile. Remember the day the Jest DESTROYED the Packers to win the AFC East after a needed miraculous comeback by the Patriots over the Dolphins minutes earlier?
It’s a moment I will never forget man and I have a horrible memory. No one in the stadium was paying attention to the game. At the time it wasn’t so easy to watch a game so everyone had a different way of keeping track whether it was radio or talking with someone watching. When the Patriots kicked the FG to win there was an eruption and it was up there with as loud as I’ve ever heard the stadium.. and it was during a tv timeout lol. I’m not even sure the players knew what the fuck was going on. From then on the rest of the game was just a celebration and we kicked the shit out of the Packers from there.
Was just watching the recap of this game on YouTube the other day. And the 41-0 ass kicking of the colts the week after.
When I think of the Jets beating the Packers I will always think of the last game of the 1981 season. The Jets needed a win to make the playoffs for the first time since 1969 which they did destroying the Packers 28-3. Here are some highlights. 2002 was nice especially how all the other games broke our way but 1981 was a much bigger victory after all the suffering in the 70s.
I was 12 years old tailgating outside of the stadium. I remember sitting on a cooler with the antenna hooked up to a small TV and we had the Dolphins/Pats game on. 24-13 with like 5ish minutes left in the game and then New England came back to win. I remember looking up from the TV and there must have been 30 people standing around the the trunk of the TV watching the game alongside me. The roar from the stadium after the Patriots kicked the GW was something I will never forget. Everyone stormed inside after that kick and then we proceeded to beat the shit out of the Packers. What a night.
Great thread idea @HackettStillSux . Would love to see this theme for other games/moments (good and bad). Fun stuff and love hearing others' perspectives and experiences on Jet history. And thanks for posting the video and pinpointing the moment the news broke through, @Aero I was lucky enough to be there too and it was by far the best experience I've had at a game. If memory serves me, I remember going into the stadium and the mood was pretty low. Pats were still down late so felt like it would be a meaningless game. Pretty sure I remember somebody behind me had a radio and was listening to the game. I remember hearing it went into OT and there was some buzz too. Mood changed. And then then Vinatieri made that kick and the guy behind us lost it and then the whole place erupted in the midst of a random play on the field. Such an energy in that place. It felt like they just cruised from there. Watching some of the replay, it's surprising that GB cut it to even 14-10. It never felt that close. And then in the 2nd half, they just rolled GB, who was great that year, so it was no small feat. Fireworks went off, place was electric. Definitely a peak moment as a Jets fan
I get sad thinking about Chad Pennington, if only his arm wasn't taped together most of his career after the injuries. I was so excited about him
