I think it worked out well for Jets as this past draft is looking franchise altering. However, Tyreek is elite and would’ve been great too and who knows how the draft would’ve played out had Tyreek chosen the Jets. Not a great argument to say he would’ve just taken the money and coasted when he is proving that to be false as we speak. Anyway, to answer the topic of the post. Yes of course the state of NJ and taxes played a part in costing the Jets Tyreek.
There is a state of mind among many of the Jets faithful that is to ignore the fact that we're a bottom 3 franchise at this point.
I didn't say anything about the Jets. This is a thread about why a guy chose another franchise over us and he explicitly stated money. Pretending like he chose the Dolphins because it's a great football move is flat out wrong.
There's a difference between great moves and terrible moves that often makes mediocre moves look outstanding.
He’s very close to the wide receiver cliff and standing on it. He is exceptionally fast though and it doesn’t appear as though he has slowed down this year. The Dolphins are setup to win this deal the first two years and lose it badly the second two years. I’m not sure it matters for multimillionaires since they’re going to buy their mansions regardless of where they live, but Miami is one of America’s ten most expensive cities to live in as far as real estate upfront cost is concerned.
No doubt Hill is one of, if not the best WR currently, but how long will that last for? I don't trust he'll produce at a high level for years to come, whether it be something off-field-related or age. I'm damn happy with Garrett Wilson, who looks like a potential star too, but much younger, much less expensive and seems like a better personality than Hill. Oh and all the high draft picks we saved that have already turned into big contributors.
LOL Speaking of Yikes... -Florida is the seventh-fastest growing state in the U.S., with a growth percentage of 1.12%. Florida’s population grew by 478,386, from 21,254,926 to 21,733,312. Florida is the third-largest state by population in the United States; however, even the large net migration to the state has not been enough to raise housing values back to their pre-recession values. Florida has no state income tax; the cost of living is relatively lower than other East Coast states and has warm weather year-round. -Frank Sinatra must be rolling over in his grave today. Instead of moving to New York, people are moving out of it. In fact, 88,648 residents left the state in their rearview mirrors between 2018 and 2019.
Love your first bullet point. Florida growing means all the looney tunes and assholes are leaving states like mine. It's only getting more enjoyable to live in CT.
Speaking of LOL.... Where did that BS come from?!? Property where I live is approaching DOUBLE what it was the last real estate boom... and how is Tyreek Hill to the JETS still a topic? that ship sailed 6 months ago
It's not a winnable deal in my opinion. It's just too much money to give one player for the likely win share they will have on the team. The Fins are losing on the deal right now however it's not a flashy surface loss because the player is a flashy player who keeps public perception of the deal positive for them. In a few years they will be losing big time on it and nothing Hill does will change that perception.
I get Hill's reasoning.. As much as I love New Jersey, I can't afford to retire there as the COL is waay too high. Taxes... taxes.... taxes.. Same reason why I can't go home and retire in NYS.
There were many factors in Tyreek’s decision just like there are a ton of factors in decisions we all make. But at the end of the day, the 5% a player loses on game checks isn’t a big enough to be the deciding factor. We are in the biggest media market in the world, 5% can be made up easily.
Fun fact, Vermont has some of the highest taxes in the entire country. Wouldn't think that. I know a lot of people who flocked from NE to Florida. Most of them suck and were attracted by the cost of living. Remote work has probably made it more appetizing.
With regards to income tax, Vermont is #8 and Jersey is #3. You also need to factor is sales tax and real estate tax. NJ is one of the worst. And it smells like a bad fart.
