Rex came in with a lot of bombast and confidence. He brought some swagger and defiance to the Jets but, eventually his bluster was his ruination. Rex was a defensive mastermind and his play-off victory over the Patriots was this team's last great stand until they beat the Bills yesterday. The Saleh book has yet to written but, so far a pretty good read.
Title was very misleading, but I understand your optimism. Saleh and the boys are doing a good job. Let's see how the season plays out.
Saleh is the first Jets coach to oversee a complete rebuild from the ground up since Walt Michaels. And so far at this point very similar results. The frustrating first year. Excitement in the second but at this point I’d have to say Saleh’s slightly in the lead in regards to talent and team swagger. Way too early to crown him but I really like what I see.
Saleh's coaching job last year might have even been better than this year. We had an historic amount of injuries last year and were often playing with players just picked up off the street. Despite all the injuries, youth and adversity the team played hard every game last year and played competitive football down the stretch while having almost no healthy players left. The effort and improvement the Jets showed last year really showcased the potential of this CS.
Not saying that the OP is wrong, but let's wait to the end of the movie before we say it's the best of all time.
My title needs editing. Whenever I watch the players talk about the coach, just today Laken Tomlinson referencing the energy Saleh brings to meetings, the feeling in his voice. "We really want to go out and play for him". There have been so many misses at the helm these past few seasons, I think Douglas finally got it right with Saleh. Of course it's early, I'm just feeling confident. And who doesn't like dragons?
Way too early to say things like best ever obviously, but it certainly feels very promising right now. He’s a high energy rah rah type, which is the complete opposite of what Adam Gase was. Saleh is a relationship guy whereas Gase wasn’t. These things often go on pendulum swings, but for now he has been what we badly needed…a guy who can connect with and motivate the players. the talent has improved and with that the schemes look better. I certainly wondered why we we kept so many DL and many questioned the high rotation but it sure is working well right now, even without a truly elite edge rusher. QW has 7 sacks so far, which is a career high for him and we’re only halfway through the season. So the defensive system is clicking and if we get a true elite edge this can be a top 3 defense. on offense, ZW has shown flashes but has also been inconsistent and struggles quite a bit, and that’s ok when you can lean on a D and run game to carry the load while the QB develops. The Buffalo game was HUGE as it hopefully lays the blueprint for now we need to run our offensive scheme….heavy run and quick hit passes so ZW doesn’t have to overthink things for now. I think what’s really important though is that for the first time probably since Tanny and Rex, it just feels like the GM and HC are very much in sync. He’s getting players the coaches want and need…there looks like a plan in place and they are all reading from the same script. It hasn’t felt like that in a long time….Mac drafted some good players but there was no rhyme or reason to it and he never built a team with a clear vision. It looks very different now. but back to the point, yes Saleh is looking good right now … let’s keep it up
