I?m real happy the way things turned out this year. I just wondering whether anyone has any sore spot they noticed this year. For me I felt frustrated by the inability to open up holes on the line for the run game, I did see some hole's open up during Games, which Leon just simply missed. I also think running back was another sore spot. Barlow was thought to be better then he actually was or did the line not open up those lanes that a runner like Barlow would need. I do realize that this o-line was young with two rookies and mainly concentrating on keeping Chad upright. fftopic: And what is going to happen to Trey Teague when he?s healthy.
The Jets won more games that I thought reasonably possible at the beginning of the season. They rushed for more yards with more TD's and fewer fumbles than I thought reasonably possible given Martin's absence. They gave up fewer sacks and kept Chad alive for longer than I thought reasonably possible. I just can't see where the Jets could have done anything better given the talent on hand and the move to a new system on both sides of the ball.
The Jets could not have done much better in the draft. There aren't any picks that look especially bad, although the only ones that were definitely, without question, good were Mangold and Leon. I'll give Tanginibaum the benefit of the doubt on free agency signings - I like Dyson and don't really understand the salary cap enough to judge. Coaching could not have been better except that maybe they could have mixed in a little 4-3, as they are better built for that. But that might have been too confusing for the players who need to learn the 3-4 system.
Mixing 3-4 & 4-3 last season would have helped us out a lot more last season. We were more built around a 4-3, but this is only because we have players that were brought here for that scheme. It would not be beneficial to these players that will remain here next season in the 3-4 though, and I think they did the right thing by sticking mainly too 3-4. It is also really impressive on how well our players converted to a 3-4 scheme (Vilma, Robertson, etc.)in such a short amount of time, and this will be a VERY good thing for us as fans next season. IMO The main thing that really got under my skin was our blitzing schemes. They were creative in mid-season, but were picked up well towards the end of the season. I dont know if this was due to the players, or just the schemes in general, but I hope for more variety come next season.
I was blown away at the chances that Mangini took during the year and extreamly happy to see B Shottenhiemer's offense wasnt the lay down and die type from the hackett era!
1.Used Brad Smith a bit more downfield 2.Blitzed more earlier in the season 3.Used Leon Washington earlier in the season That's about it. The rest is personnel related. I can't complain about 10-6. -X-
i mean they coulda done better in alot of areas...but still i was very happy with our season...seeing how everyone thought we were gonna suck
A 10 -6 record with a cupcake schedule ( one win vs teams with a winning record) moving players all over the field, running trick plays with smoke and mirrors produced an awful 26th ranked offense: http://www.nfl.com/stats/teamsort/NFL/OFF-TOTAL/2006/regular?sort_col_1=4
However, they produced only 16 yards less offense per game, and Held the ball longer, then Herms new tribe, which has Tony Gonzalez, Larry Johnson, and a Veteran O/L.... And you are evaluating Cream Pufff schedule wrong. Look at the defenses faced. 8 of those games were against top 10 defenses....(ne,2, mia, 2, jax, minn, chi, oak...)
They could have won the super bowl. Anything short of that cannot be considered success. Just ask Matt Millen.
The pats schedule was weaker. So was the Saints and the Bears. The Bears actually played the weakest schedule in the NFL..
Yeah, and everyone knows they're one of the worst #1 seeds ever...but they get lucky this week with a terrible Hawks team. THEN the Eagles/Saints will destroy them....hee heee I'm excited I hate the Bears so much
Hope your paying attention to everyone’s response to your post, your theory is blow out the water and your timely arrival back on the board is not appreciated. What team do you really root for? Let me guess 49er's in the 70-to 80's Cowboys in the 90's and probably the pat's in the in the new millennium.
1: I wanted Brad Smith to throw a pass this year. 2: Chad threw too many picks 3: Wanted Chris Bake more invloved in the pass game. 4: Mix in some 4-3 to change it up.
