Now that wr thread doesnt look so bad does it ??? If he indeed does retire in three years, were going to be a little sick, we passes on guys like rice and jarrett.
I'd be surprised if he plays 4 more years. He's taking such a pounding and I cant see it stopping anytime soon.
I am not sure what you guys are bitching about with Coles only playing 3 more years. IF he continues to have seasons like this one where he gets his bell rung regularly he will be lucky to be in the league 3 more years. He probably doesn't want to have to go out like his friend Wayne did. And I don't blame him. It would be nice to see him have a Jerry Rice career, but these guys are mortal and as they get older they should remember that.
5 is too much to expect from Coles. Many receivers can go into their late 30s and some push 40. However Coles isnt that type of receiver. You see receivers who are that old, they were never recievers who went over the middle and took a beating after the catch. Most of these guys might have been speedsters but a lot were down the sidelines make a catch, lanky jump-ball downfield receivers. Coles body will wear out soon enough. Look at Chrebet, he was an over the middle, make the catch, take the hit and just keep that 1st down receiver. Well he didnt last long(I know injuries were huge however they happened due to his receiving job). Coles is siomilar to Chrebet in that manner, Coles has taken many bruising hits throughout his career and to expect him to play till he is about 35 is too much. You compare that to Jerry Rice who made most of his catches down the sidelines and through well ran routes and finding holes, he wasnt an over the middle take the huge hit and thats why he went till he was 42. Coles is different and I would be shocked if he stays 5 more years.
as much as i love the guy, im getting alittle sick of his bitching lately. why cant he just be like everyother jet and shut the hell up. this isnt the giants
Who knows if he'll even be a Jet in 3-4 years. Guys talk retirement all the time at ends of seasons when they are beat up. I am not worried about how many seasons he'll play.
If Penny is throwing to Coles for the next few years, 3 years seems like a long time considering how much Penny sets him up for the big hit.
ALL the more reason to spend a draft pick on WR..... not necessarily a day one pick but something that cannot be ignored. jil
I live in Jacksonville and have met Coles a couple times at this Oyster bar. My feeling was he doesn't really like living up North. I'm sad to say but it wouldn't surprise me if he was a Jaguar someday or retired soon, considering the beating he has taken. He is definitely one of the toughest players I have ever seen.
those guys are first rounders, even if Coles retired today I doubt mangini would use a first round pick on a WR with the lack of talent on defense right now.
