From Pro Football Weekly's Whispers: "The latest name making the rounds in Detroit, where RB Marshall Faulk and DE Simeon Rice have already surfaced as 2007 targets, is Ravens LB Adalius Thomas, slated to become an unrestricted free agent in the spring. We’re told he’s said to have interest in playing for Lions head coach Rod Marinelli." ...is considering bringing in a should-be retired RB, whose prime ended 4 years ago and a 33 year old DE and a 30 year old LB to fix a team that just went 3-13. Feel free to add your "Matt Millen is such a bad GM he..." observations to the thread. We are witnessing the worst extended management of a professional sports team ever and it's happening in the NFL of all places, a league that is famed for understanding the business value of good management, well except in Arizona of course.
Let me first note, I do not want to see the Jets pursue Thomas. I deem him too old. He'll get his big contract here and maybe play hard for one year. After that, I wouldn't expect much. Faulk, Rice, and Thomas all won Super Bowls (Thomas played in the 2000 AFC Championship Game, but did not play in SB 35). Maybe their presence and experience with winning would help the younger Lions. Maybe that is what Millen is thinking about. Personally, I would not go that route if I was in Millen's shoes. Also, the Clippers should be mentioned when talking about the worst extended management of a pro team.
When I read this stuff, I sometimes wonder if the owner WANTS his team to stink up the place so that when he (finally) moves the team to greener pastures (Los Angeles???), the NFL will allow it ("He's not getting any fan support in Detroit and because of that, he's losing money"), and the people in Detroit will say "Good Riddance."
Matt Millen loses on purpose in order to acquire high first round picks to obtain awesome players, like, you know, Roy Williams, and, umm Charles Rogers. Ugh, I those aren't good. I mean players like Mike Williams and Joey Harrington. AHHH. God help me.
Matt Millen is such a bad GM that......... After he fires Marinelli at the end of the season, he will trade the #1 overall pick in the NFL draft to the KC Chiefs for Herman Edwards.
Mill3n5ux Their is no reason to go after Simeon Rice. He's 33? Although Marinelli did get the most out of Rice while Marinelli was the DLine coach...Still will command some big money.
Good thought, however he's a Ford and if he moved the team the company would take a huge hit in image. Look for a sale to somebody else before the Lions move.
Hehe, next series in that line of pictures will be Bolsheviks at the city gates waving Millen's head, circa 1917 or so.
