    the answer is yes

Ask yourself, was Trent Dilfer or Brad Johnson a QB that YOU looked at and thought, "is this guy a QB that can take my team to a superbowl?"

the answer most likley is no, unless you had a gift of knowledge that many of us do not possess...chad by far is superior to these QB's, and has the ability to take his team to the SB and win it

However, will his supporting cast help him win it all will be what helps decide this question we all are pondering over...

Yes he's a Super Bowl QB. People tend to forget this is a team sport. We need to address run defense, a number 1 running back, another guard or two, and another corner. Pennington is the least of our problems when it comes to getting to the Super Bowl. If Brien hits a FG, maybe we wouldn't even be talking about this. If Vinatieri misses a few FGs, we wouldn't even mention Brady. Pennington needs more players around him.

You got to have one hell of a DEFENSE then.

what big game has he won? beating up on bad defenses , which you don't see in the playoffs, is no proof.

If the following QB's can get to the SB, so can Pennington:

    Grossman
    Hasselback
Rothlesberger (amazing what a defense and running game can dot)
    Delhomme
    Johnson
    Collins
    Dilfer
    Chandler
    Bledsoe
    O'Donnell
    Humphries
    Rypien
    Hoestetler
    etc.

I know where your getting but all of those QB's had something called DEFENSE. Something we do not have.

Why start a thread like this, if you frequent this board you should have a good idea of how people feel. Half like Penny, half do not.

When you look at the 2 worst QBs to appear in the SB in recent memory(Dilfer and Grossman) it really makes you wonder. Both of these teams had excellent defenses and yet rather then opt for a "ball control" dink and dunk offense they have highly inaccurate mad bombers behind center. Chicago even has a dinker and dunker as a backup and they stay with Grossman.

The answer is as terrible as Dilfer and Grossman are defenses still have to respect and gameplan for the fact that they can and will throw down the field at any time. Obviously this helps the running game immensely as teams can't stack the box as they always do against Pennington. This is the biggest reason why he'll never be able to lead a team to a SB. Good QB's make the players around them better, Pennington can make them worse with his limitations. He deserves credit for being able to do what he does with all his shortcomings but he is never going to take a team to the SB because for Pennington to be effective he needs to be almost perfect and the odds of that happening 3 or 4 times in a row is slim to none.

Pennington is a Great Guy and Im glad he came back but he will never win the big one unless Mangini and crew put together a Raven-Bear like Defense. Even if Chad had Recievers that could stretch the field like (SANTANA MOSS) he does not have the ability to get the ball to him so it would be a wasted talent on the Jets. At this point it seems the Jets will try to build a dink and dunk offense so I strongly suggest we use the first three picks we have this year on Offensive and defensive Linemen. Chad will never win a shootout and the margin for error is to great with him at Qb so my best suggestion is we build a running game and a Great Defense. Personally I would like to see Clemens get a shot but that is not going to happen unfortunately.

Watching the game last night made me realize, WOW Chad can't make 70% of those throws. Did you see the way Manning loosened up the defense by throwing deep? Granted he didn't connect, but the idea was planted in the first half that he was going to take his shots. When the second half rolled around the middle was wide open and he just had a field day. Also, even the Colts running looked pretty good. Again a function of honoring the pass. I said this on the other threads but I just don't think we are going to have the kind of defense that can shut teams down and win the 17 10 games. At least for the next year or so. I say let Clemmens and Chad compete and if Chad winds then fine. He can carry the torch for the next year or two but don't expect to win a superbowl with him. Great guy, great guts, great smarts, but the arm is just too anemic to win the big one.
