Hackett resigns as Jets offensive coordinator All RSS Feeds Sportsbooks.com - Online Sportsbook, Casino, Racebook & Poker Room Hempstead, NY (Sportsbooks) - Paul Hackett has resigned as the offensive coordinator of the New York Jets. Hackett spent a tumultuous four years running the Jet offense and came under heavy criticism for his play-calling during this past season. The Jets finished 12th in the NFL in total offense in 2004, despite having the league's top rusher in Curtis Martin. New York also failed to score an offensive touchdown in its 20-17 overtime loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers in the AFC Divisional Playoffs this past weekend. "Paul has worked tirelessly in his efforts on our behalf, and we appreciate the commitment he has made and his hard work," said Jets head coach Herman Edwards in a statement Wednesday. "He has been a significant contributor to the team's success and the development of several key offensive players for us." Edwards and Hackett have known each other since 1972 when both were at the University of California. Hackett was a graduate assistant at the school and Edwards was just beginning his collegiate playing career. "Coach Edwards and I agreed that the time was right to move in another direction," said Hackett. "There are other opportunities that I would like to explore at this point in time. I leave knowing that I've worked extremely hard and had a hand in the organization's recent success. We've enjoyed some wonderful moments and went to the playoffs in three of the last four years, something that has never happened in the history of this organization." Hackett joined the Jets in 2001 when Edwards was named head coach. Prior to arriving in New York, Hackett spent three years as head coach at Southern California after a five-year run as offensive coordinator with the Kansas City Chiefs. He has also been a collegiate head coach at the University of Pittsburgh and an NFL assistant with Cleveland, San Francisco and Dallas. "Looking at what we need to do to move forward, Paul recognized that a change needed to be made for a number of different reasons," Edwards added. "We will now begin the process of identifying and interviewing candidates for the position with the goal of increasing our offensive productivity and consistency."
he asked if there was anything to cheer or bitch about, and I think that story certainly qualifies under the "cheer" section
haha i think it is official that you are either slow at picking up jokes or have no sense of humor what so ever!
It was raining while i was playing softball. That sucked. And the jets have been idle in the FA department. Thats sucks too. And the vikings offered steve hutchinson a 7year offer sheet. Maybe we can compete.
