this is just another example of how there are too many teams in the NFL nowadays...way too many jobs created for way too many bums who don't know what they're doing.
its more than just having a brain, its having a brain to be able to study the defenses and the ability to make split second decisions.. thats the real talent, anyone can memorize its the ability to make something happen based upon what you studied and see in a split second. and be right every single time.
A QB has to be smart enough to understand the play called (and there are hundreds of plays), understand all 11 players responsibilities of each play, understand how the defense is lined up and how that look interacts against the current offensive play that was called, understand what to audible to based on those looks, understand what route the WR’s/TE’s will run based on what he sees (hot routes), and understand which defenders have a mismatch and whether the ball needs to come out quickly based on what the D shows presnap, or if he needs to adjust the pass protection. This is all just pre-snap. The moment the ball is snapped within a second the QB needs to see and recognize any deviations the Defense made from the pre-snap look, and within that second he needs to determine what WR (if any) would have a mismatch based on the post snap deviation. This is with the added pressure of some of the biggest, strongest, and fastest human beings on earth trying to crush you. This is all of course on top of the ability to throw a football at an elite level in strength and accuracy, from all sorts of awkward positions, while the aforementioned freaks of nature are bearing down on you. Playing QB in the NFL is the hardest thing to do in sports in my opinion. People used to say it’s hitting a baseball, but there are hundreds of guys who do that astoundingly well at an elite level. There are not 30 men in the world that can play QB at an elite level.
That's kinda what I meant. *IF* a young QB has the brain that can do all what you rightfully describe (and we won't even know for a season or two) then HOPEFULLY that young QB will have the body size/talent to take advantage of that great brain. So while we can't always know what brain we're drafting, we CAN know what body we're drafting. That's all. Draft a big strong fast QB, and HOPE the brain follows! Kinda like the Bills did with Josh Allen.
Speaking of struggling QBs. Zach Wilson, continuing an uneven offseason, had two passes picked (including one returned for a TD) and nearly threw a third INT and second pick-six. https://t.co/i9fvC0mE1G — Barry Jackson (@flasportsbuzz) June 10, 2025
The Dolphins backup QB. He's just one Tua concussion away from starting. LOL. The Dolphins have 2 rookie QBs, one a 7th rnd draft pick and the other is an UDFA.
I guess this says that it wasn't the Jets...Wilson just doesn't have what it takes for this level of football.
