I won’t speak for him but I think BA was exaggerating the point a little bit. I agree, I’d rather have an overpaid average QB ala Lawrence than a pile of dogshit like we’ve had for ever. But as an example - do we want to be the Panthers and face that decision as to whether or not to extend Bryce Young? CJ Stroud has been objectively underwhelming for essentially a year and a half. Do you give him a big deal in the offseason? Tough. Every team does because they’d rather be in that position than where the Jets, Browns, Raiders, etc. are.
I personally don't like Young (in general I do not like short QBs, and Young is 5-10) but I do like Stroud. I would have drafted him over Young that year, and it wasn't even close. Yes tough decision whether to extend Stroud, but at least they have a decision to make. We don't even have a possible option at a competent QB and haven't had for 20 years. Pennington was the last competent QB we had, and even he was injury prone with weak arm. I would say Stroud and TL would be better prospects we've seen in many decades. Which is why I would love TL or Stroud in spite of tough decisions whether and how much to pay them. At least there is a tough decision to be made there, we got nothing. Of course I would want Mahomes or Allen, but realistically someone like Stroud or Lawrence or Goff we have a shot to get in this draft in Moore and Mendoza. And we cannot be scoffing at this. Not after decades of misery we just had. We need to take out shot: I just can't deal with likes of Zach, Fields, semi retired shell of Rodgers, Tim Boyle, Tyrod Taylor, etc, any longer.
