Right, Jones may not be for all but the thought process (2 headed approach - sign/trade and draft) is what the Jets should pursue.
One of the biggest problems the Jets have had for decades is that they can't coach/develop QBs. Teams like the Packers and the 49ers are the opposite. The 49ers took the last guy in the draft and made him into a star. They made Mac Jones into an effective QB! I'm not saying it's an easy thing to do, but the Jets are probably the absolute worst team in that category over the last 20 years. Until this changes, the Jets won't be contending for anything. In addition, I won't believe they can change until I actually see actual change.
To be perfectly honest, the Jets need much better management They need a coaching staff to develop a high draft quarterback Denver Chicago and New England have accomplished that, but until we have a better brain Trust, we might as well just draft a QB Picking up an Aaron Rodgers or Justin Fields or Mac Jones just doesn’t work Because our owner doesn’t learn from the past, the franchise is just condemned to repeating the same mistakes Woody had an opportunity to get a blue chip coaching staff with Mike McCarthy and he blow it So I say draft your quarterback at number two Make the New York Jets job, really attractive, and hire new coaching staff Jmho
Draft one. They tried the reclamation project route with Fields. It will be a impossible sell in year 2. We have a ton of draft picks use one or more on QBs.
True, but if they're drafting a kid in the 1st rd, they really just need a guy with solid play for a year who's not a douche
Would be nice to sign a knowledgeable vet who understands how to prepare and can pass down to our rookie Qb. I like SF Qb's as they seem to have a process that works. Darnold said being around Brock Purdy was instrumental in his development.
We need a cheap veteran FA that can keep things professional on the field for about 8 gams to a full season while Moore develops. I’d be all for Mac Jones if he was a FA, but not to trade for him.
Yeah, as for me, I’d be a solid 100% HELL NO to both Mac Jones and Kyler Murray…they don’t seem to be the kind of guys that are good leaders and I don’t think either is very good anyway…certainly Murray is better than Jones but I don’t like either guy. Personally, I would be fine with signing a guy like Malik Willis or my first choice would be to trade for Davis Mills if that’s even a possibility, and I’d be willing to give up a 3rd or even a 2nd round pick if need be for Mills. But not sure if Houston would even entertain trading him. As usual, there aren’t very many decent options in free agency for a QB, but I for sure don’t want Murray or Jones. Hard fucking pass for me.
If we had Kyle Shanahan's clone then I'd be all over Mac Jones. He really did show some toughness this year and I really liked how he guided the Niners in Purdy's absence. HOWEVER, he is a system QB and that system resides in San Francisco. I hate to say it but Mac Jones on the Jets wouldn't end well. Besides, IF he decides to leave the Niners, which I don't think he will, he sure as hell isn't coming to Raiders East. Actually, depending on who they get in Arizona, that wouldn't be a bad fit for him there.
As a backup QB I'd be be very open to him coming here. Not as the starter and not for a high second round pick which is more like a late first round pick. The Jets need new #1 and #2 QBs. He'd be perfect as a young veteran backup QB to a rookie high draft pick QB. And I wouldn't give up on Cook. He had no chance this year really it's impossible to properly evaluate him because of the situation he was thrown into. He did gain some experience which could help him in the future.
Mac Jones and the 49ers 2nd round pick for the Jets #44 pick. The value of the swapped picks is equivalent to a mid 3rd round pick. Maybe even throw in a 6th or 7th round pick to sweeten the deal if the 49ers get beat early in the playoffs. If you consider the value of a starting QB for the low price of his contract, its a great deal.
Mac Jones’ talent horizon just isn’t high enough to overcome the reality that he’s a massive douchebag. In a short term caretaker role I kind of understand it, but I’m not sure I want him around the new talent we’re going to be drafting.
