Giants is an enticing job for anyone. Have a young QB, RB and WR in place and also have a high pick in the draft.
Glenn is still steering the Spanish Armada in the meantime everyone else knows how to build smaller, faster boats that are just as effective. He is such a clown and it bothers me so much he believes his own nonsense!
Here's the deal. Usually when a coaching change happens and you move to a high profile HC who's had a lot of success in the league like Harbaugh it usually translates to a significant bump in wins in Year 1. With all these young, talented pieces in place and a former SB winning HC coming in, it should translate to a major bump in the Giants W-L total next season. I'm thinking 8 wins in his first year and that may be conservative. It's like the perfect storm of good shit happening to them. #Cursed
Come on guys. No decent coach wants to come here because our ownership/culture is completely unstable and perennially amateur. We are a rookie HC team for a reason. Even our good players cant wait to leave - no matter how motivated they were when they got here.
I thought about that a lot. We fired Bob in Oct. It was clear Ulbrich wasn't the guy in Nov and Woody hired the 33d team then too. Initially I thought the only way to get Vrabel was to fire Bob a year earlier, which I would have done, but dumbass Woody stuck with Saleh. But that is not the case. Vrabel WAS AVAILABLE last November!!! We could have done something a bit unorthodox, interview bunch of guys and Vrabel in Nov/Dec. We had a leg up on everyone, and reportedly he was the best candidate. He was available. Why not hire him right then and there in November/December before the season is even over if you like him so much? While the season is still going. Is there a rule that you cannot hire until Jan? I don't think so. At that point he had no other offers, the season was not even over yet, everyone else had the coaches. If Woody and Tanny liked him so much, they could have had him before anyone else even made a move.
Most likely Monken will come there. I really like him. This was a good hire for the Giants, I think they will be a solid team now.
Vrabel was employed by the Browns in 2024. Wasn't out of his contract til after the season ended. And there was never ever a chance he was coming here with the Pats job being open. And that Pats job wasn't open until Vrabel said "Im interviewing with the Jets". So it was never a realistic option.
I know once it got open, it was over. But I am saying before that. You can interview while on the Browns during the season, he actually did that. My point was that we could have made him an offer in December (for the 2025 season) BEFORE Pats job even opened and closed the deal.
I do as well. I get the criticisms on both Harbaugh and Tomlin about how they didn’t win enough on the postseason…that was kind of the knock on Marty Schottenheimer as well…great regular seasons but should have won more superbowls…I guess you can maybe say that about McCarthy as well. But regardless, all great and proven successful coaches. For a team like the Giants, where they have been a floundering mess like us for a while now, this is the exact right kind of hire. They tried rookie coaches in Joe Judge, Brian Daboll, they tried former HCs like Pat Shurmer too, but none of those guys had Harbaugh’s pedigree or resume. So if you suck for years and need a culture change, THIS is the kind of coach you bring in. Instant credibility. Proven winner. THAT is the kind of coach that fosters a culture change. We’ll see how he does, but even if he doesn’t win a Super Bowl for them, if he gets them out of the bottom feeder territory and creates that stability (see? Stability is the result of success, not the cause of it!) then that’s the right hire. You can worry about winning SuperBowls but first you have to be a consistent playoff contender…. Will be interesting to see if Harbaugh can do it, but I’d guess he will bring them up from the bottom feeder territory they are sitting in with us, the Browns, the Titans, the Raiders and the Cardinals, and get them to respectability. It’s exactly what Woody should have realized years ago, but STILL doesn’t see.
Mike Vrabel interviewed with other teams during the season while employed by the Browns? I honestly have no recollection of that.
No, he interviewed with us before the Browns season was over. He was doing Browns a favor, he was a relatively low level hire there. If we wanted him as a head coach in December and pulled the trigger then instead of waiting to interview 100 garbage candidates, we could have had him.
Looking it up now... his Browns contract was up on 12/30, he interviewed with us 1/3. Not much more we could have done there.
As soon as he knew Saleh wasn't it and there was a possibility that he would be fired after 6 games Woody should have fired him then and got Vrabel when he was available and would have come here. We will be saying the exact same thing next year except instead of Vrabel it will be one of these other guys.
Yeah, Harbaugh definitely underachieved with MVP level QB all these years, but he did develop Lamar and he did win a SB with a below average QB. He has good pull and can bring in good coaches too. I still like guys like nerds like Coen and Ben Johnson more, but we know Harbaugh will get good coaches, like Monken and will raise the floor. We could use that, the Giants could use that. It really helped I think the Giants had a QB prospect Dart that showed talent. That's what I was hoping to achieve for 2027 cycle with Moore. I am not a huge fan of Simpson, but given the options, from probability perspective, he may not be the worst one at #16. I do not think Simpson lasts until our next pick. If he pulls Dart, it could make our opening a lot more attractive.
For Vrabel, I don’t think he was all that serious with us…I think it was a move to pressure Kraft to make a change as I think he wanted that NE job all along…his old team, a young QB, a MUCH better owner…I think he just played Woody and never really had any intention of taking this job. No data or quotes to back that up, just my opinion, but that’s what I believe.
His contract was up before the season was over? That's strange. Still, you can interview with permission from the Browns though. I don't see how the Browns deny him a permission to interview say on Dec 15th for HC role. He was a consultant there and had great relationship with these coaches, doing them a favor. We should have asked for a permission, interviewed him, and made him an offer before anyone fired their coaches if we liked him so much as was reported. Then on Dec 31st, before the season was even over he could have been our coach for 2026. But I agree that required out of the box thinking that was not in the cards with this owner or Tanny.
They were coming off the Rodgers achilles year, there's no logical way Saleh was losing his job before Rodgers played multiple games. I feel like there's 0 precedent to say this is what we SHOULD have done. You never ever see people interviewing for an HC job during the regular season let alone when they're already employed by another team.
It's a rare scenario. You fire coach early. The one really like A LOT is unemployed in any significant capacity, just a consultant. I agree, no precedent, but it was possible with some out of the box thinking. Even better would have been to fire Bob a year before and get him then, but not impossible even after they actually fired him.
