I keep running mock draft after mock draft. Unless Lemon falls to us at 16 and barring trades, it’s almost a certainty that our first 3 picks will be on Defense. #2 overall will be Bain/Reese/Downs #16 with Lemon off the board you’re looking at Peter Woods/Sonny Styles/Kayden McDonald with an outside chance of drafting Ty Simpson here (please no) #33 gives us a chance at WR for Chris Bell, but mainly the players available in this range are DT Banks, S McNeil-Warren, LB CJ Warren, CB Colton Hood. It just doesn’t stack up well at all for offensive players. I will say Bain, Styles, and Banks would be one hell of a trio to add to our D. As would Reese, Woods, Hood.
Too much boom or bust with these picks IMO. Chris Bell is coming off a late season ACL tear. Not that kind of guy I'm investing a top pick on as there's too much unknown about the recovery process and if he'll ever be the same. Banks missed time this past season too due to injuries. I love Bain at 2 but I'm going CJ Allen (sideline to sideline elite tackling machine) at 16 and Surratt at 33. I prefer players without so much boom or bust tied to them mostly due to injury concerns. Too risky. If we get Bain, Allen, and Surratt in here, the team will be vastly improved next season. Add Chambliss at 44 and damn, we'll be on the biggest stories in the league. But we all know the Jets don't know how to draft for shit so we shall see. Mougey, the focus is squarely on you. This draft is your chance to prove yourself.
If we get Bain, Allen, and Surratt in here, the team will be vastly improved next season. Add Chambliss at 44 and damn, we'll be on the biggest stories in the league. Agreed!!! I do think that Bain may be rotational with JJ and if Glenn is on the hot seat, he needs a guy t plug in immediately and Reese is that. JJ and WMcD are servicable enough.
We'll see I think we trade back at 33. For the right price I would at two but feel we go: 2. Reese maybe Bailey 16. Lemon Tate Jordan if they make it there. If not trade back or dtackle 33. Probably the receiver but can see a trade back.
I wouldn't mind making the defense the priority in this draft. It was the weakest unit on a putrid roster and needed the upgrade. Good thing is, even if we do spend the first 3 picks on defense, we still have other picks to use to backfill spots on the offense not to mention the '27 bonanza of picks we could use to beef up the offense. Spread out over both drafts, we should be competitive in '27-'28.
Three of the first four should be defense. Maybe not the first three, depends on who is there at 16 like you said. But if we go D (Reese, best DL, best safety) and then go WR at 44 that’s probably a solid draft.
This wouldn't shock me at all. The defense was atrocious last year. I'm not sure this defense currently has one average player. And certainly no above average players. Assuming Breece is back, you have your RB, WR1, and Offensive Line at least accounted for. QB shouldnt be an option, and WR2 will probably be addressed. All three levels of defense will probably be addressed. At this point in the "rebuild," I'm pretty content with BPA at every pick. Reese, Bain, Bailey, Downs, Styles, and McCoy I think are all in play with 2 and 16.
Our defense needs way more talent than the offense. The offenses biggest need is qb, and I'm not sure any that are drafted after Mendoza will have an immediate impact at the position.
I see the need at WR just as critical as defense…right now we have exactly ONE legit starting WR. That’s it. After GW, we have castoffs like Mitchell who can’t catch very well, Metchie who shows up one week and disappears the next, and Williams, who may just be the best of those three but is also a great KR. We need a real WR2 Badly
And a WR, a TE, and probably a speedy, young RB. Our skill position talent is bottom 10 in the league bad and that's being kind. The young TE Taylor still needs to prove he's legit. None of these young RB's behind Hall have stood out. The Jets haven't;t had a speedy young back since who? Leon Washington. That's where the league is these days. Get a young back like that in here in Round 3. Wilson is our only legit offensive skill player. We need serious help on both sides of the ball. I do agree that we should probably go all defense in the 1st round unless a Carnell Tate is still there at 16 by some odd chance. So I'm thinking we may go defense with the first two picks and hopefully get two young game changers like Bain and Allen. After that I'd seriously look at a top WR like Surratt at 33.
The mock draft rankings always differ drastically from the way the actual draft plays out. So I don’t know how realistic it is to rely on the simulations. KC Concepcion and Denzel Boston are probably in play at 16. A couple of the backs might move up the boards pretty fast, namely Emmett Johnson and Jadarian Price.
Tate & Jordan will be long gone by then. Lemon will likely be gone as well. I'd obviously be all in on any of those guys especially Tate @ 16 but that's a pipe dream.
Yeah, I like Bain at #2 overall IF the jets play a 4-3 primarily. I read that the jets may switch to a primary 3-4 defense since that is DL Coach Dunbar specialty. If they go w 3-4, Bain is a bad fit. My biggest hope is that the jets don't go QB until #44 at the earliest. They need to get 3 guys in the top 33 who can fit in right now, although that is asking a lot. I also would not draft a CB until late in draft. CB is about the only position w decent depth IMO.
What kind of long shot odds would i get for guessing the exact opposite I still don't believe a lot of the isolated and BPA driven Bain vs Reese speculation does an adequate enough job recognizing the fact that hitting huge on that pick isn't saving anybody's job here if our offense looks terrible again in 2026. The story of our 2026 season (imo) is going to be whether our offense finally take a lasting step forward this year. Which as is probably lacks the playmakers we won't be able tio find in FA to do that. Woody finally making a real effort to put vet offensive minds in place just leans me more into a belief that they might have a Ben Johnson type "weapons" draft where it's RB/WR/OL.
My dream scenario is the Jets signing Pierce in FA (size and a decent #2) and then drafting Lemon at 16….that makes Mitchell a pretty decent #4 option. Smith needs to show something this year or he suffers the same fate as Mims and Corley….. Probably just a dream I don’t see Pierce wanting to come to the Jets.
They have no choice but too, leave it to the Jets trade Gardner, which is probably the most overrated, and Williams, get draft capital, only to replace what they traded away.
I don’t see anyone wanting to come to the Jets until we show signs of being competent. Which is why I’d always prefer to win. At some point you have to lure free agents and you don’t do it by starting Brady Cook and the practice squad boys. That’s another story for another thread though. We’re gonna have to add top tier guys from the draft and hope we can make them top tier guys. Lemon would be a fantastic start. On Arian Smith… he’s been exceptionally good on ST, I think he’ll always stick as a 6th WR.
