I don’t think the Carr option is unreasonable at all, if he is healthy, still has his strong arm, he can provide a significant better bridge than Taylor and he is actually able to find open receivers quickly behind a good O line unlike Fields. I can still remember him torching us on the last play of the game for a long, long TD, costing us the game thanks to that idiotic cover zero Jets call.
Thanks. Raiders IMO are not considering him, and he has zero interest in them, he did not leave in good terms at all. That was common knowledge here in Vegas. I seriously doubt the Steelers would switch from AR to Carr.
Not exactly sure how the whole salary after rejoining the league thing works, but it doesn't appear Carr would be coming back as a free agent, and he was slated a $30m+ salary in 2026. If he's not a FA we'd also be shipping pick/s over to NO to make that happen. Which you can probably bet the top end estimate projection of what that might amount to since just like the Rodgers comp....Jets lol
I wouldn't argue that the Musgrave hire doesn't add a fun wrinkle to the speculation there. But at the end of the day we are still talking about a guy in Carr who walked away from the NFL and peak contract money to file retirement papers last year. So *THAT* guy is now going to walk it back to chase after being the all but guaranteed bridge guy for the the worst franchise in professional sports? That just doesn't gel there for me imo I mean...maybe he's financially desperate for another big paycheck i guess, and we end up being the only team out there lining up with a desire to give him that. But meh
He retired because of injury. I'm guessing he must have rehabbed his shoulder and feels like it's strong again (time will tell). As far as him being a bridge guy, he has to know that's who he is at this point until he proves that he's still got it.
What do you think I have wrong there? I read your comment as not understanding that Carr is still under contract to be a Saint if he chooses to un-retire. As stated I'm not entirely sure how the remaining salary works, but I don't believe it just disappears.
He technically belongs to them when he unretires, but what happens is that his original contract unfreezes, but without guarantees. However, big part of it will be guaranteed on the 5th day of League year in March. There is no chance he is not waived by then. His salary is simply too high (40-50 mil range) for the Saints to be able to trade him. They have to release him. Very similar to Cousins, he will be a free agent soon if he decides to unretire. So, while he technically under contract with the Saints, they have no realistic way to leverage that due to the contract size. Plus they have a young starter. Carr will be released in March once he unretires and will not require any assets to get aside from money, which I don't think will be all that huge. Now, to your point, if he has better starting option, he would go there. But he just might not have many suitors who want him to be a starter. He is 35 next month, which is not that old, but still old and he missed 1.5 years. He may be a bridge guy, but if he plays well, like before, there will be a starting spot for him again somewhere. If he wants to resume his career, the Jet's may be one of very few options for him. But I don't really know if he wants to play or would only play if he gets into great situation. If only great situation, I would not describe our situation as great to say the least. But suppose he wants to play, then Jets are definitely an option. He had his best seasons under our QB coach and he is actually AG's friend. Which brings us to the next point. I agree with @BrowningNagle that he would be a good option for us is healthy, but shoulder is a major concern. I learned he did not have surgery to repair his labrum. He took a lot of time off, but labrum just does not heal on its own. I believe he is the 1st QB who tried to use extended rest and skip a season to heal. I think the only QB who got through the full season without labrum surgery on throwing hand was Andrew Luck, and then he had it the year after. Here is what Carr did: " Muscular Relaunch: Carr spent several months just resting before he began a "slow rehab" as the 2025 season unfolded. Dynamic Stability: This time allowed him to build the rotator cuff and back muscles into a "biological sleeve" that now stabilizes the joint in place of the damaged labrum. " This "biological sleeve" is basically muscles he was able to develop given time off. But he can get reinjured any time. I was mildly excited about Derek possibly coming here until I learned about this. Without a labrum, I am just not sure how he can seriously come back.
