The guy had the best single season of any Jets QB, I don't see how he can be viewed as negative. He has the highest win % of any Jets starter, it wasn't his fault his teammates fumbled away our SB dreams in '98 and it wasn't his fault he got hurt in game 1 of '99.
Tesaverde gets a positive vote from me. 1998 was an extraordinary season and was totally unexpected. It was just a shame what happened in 1999. You're only left with "what ifs."
Vinny is a great guy. One of my fondest memories as a sports fan was sitting in the Meadowlands with a 41-0 lead over the Colts in the playoffs and chanting his name.
I voted favorable. He had some great moments as a Jet. The 98 season was great and of course the 'Monday night Miracle'. However, i did cringe almost every time he threw the ball, i was always expecting the untimely INT, so i don't miss him. And seeing him with the PAT's was not pretty:lol:
My view on Vinny overall is unfavourable. The 98 season is undoubtedly a gem and brought a smile and hope to everyone in Jet Nation. The injury and increasing age played it's part in production falling off. However in 2000 and 2001 his completion percentage fell below 60% and his TD/INT ratio just fell off the face of the earth and he never reestablished himself as the starter for the Jets after Pennington came in in 2002 I've only had radio/visual access to the Jets on a regular basis from '99 and often times when Vinny was under centre I would bemoan the fact that many of his passes lacked accuracy or were just plain off. As a matter of fact I took to calling him "blind boy Vinny". Not in the best of taste I'll admit but hey it was either that or trashing my PC or TV. I've posted his NYJ stats taken from NFL.com to illustrate my point. I know that stats don't tell the whole storyand that there can be other factors affecting production or influence on team and progress so any comments would be welcome in adding to my perspective. Apologies that the table below isn't laid out in the best way. Oh yeah and did I mention seeing him in Patsy blue just made my blood boil!! I was at that Monday Night Miracle game! My best friend, a Fish fan, got soooo drunk :drunk: that we had to leave at halftime, she was puking all over the place. All the way home I listened to the game and as I was pulling into my driveway Jumbo caught that TD! I bet they heard my cheers all the way at the Meadowlands!
a little part of me (and my love for vinny) died when i read he had signed with new england, and then when i actually saw him in the uniform, a little more love was lost, but how could i hate vinny? thumbs up in my book
Good guy (stuck up for NY during 9/11) Good player (got us farther than any QB since whitey) Good attitude (didn't much bitch when he lost his spot to Chaddaboy) All you vinny haters can read the numbers...They don't lie (~80% favorable) Can I get a "Vinny and the Jets!"
I voted favorable. Although he was an INT machine at times, Vinny led the jets in the great 98 season, and lead them to the playoffs in 2001 also. Probably could've in 99 as well, and 2000 if the team didn't collapse after a 6-1 start.
Sometimes he was a little tough to watch towards the end of his career, but Vinny has always been a favorite of mine and we really owe him a lot for what he did for our franchise.
