OK - the party is over, let the fun begin. As we approach the start of NFL Free Agency - time to take a look at the Jets' FA's and potenatial hits...

Bryan Thomas is a FA. Do we resign him? Yes if he's resonable, not if he asks for big money. If you look at the LB position, it is stocked with FA's. Behind the Lance Briggs' of the world are guys like Shawn Barber, and if you're looking inside then after Adalius Thomas there are two guys the Jets passed on in the draft - EJ Henderson and Boss Baily - both or either would make good additions IMO.

There really are not any legit NT's who can start 16 games, but would you take a flyer on Keith Traylor for one season as a part time NT and draft a young guy to push Robertson?

We need a pass rusher, and we're not getting Dwight Freeney, so do we consider Justin Smith, or look at Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila? None are particularly good in the 3-4. I would take a flier on Marcellus Wiley, who was a super start just 2-3 years ago - and can play DE in the 3-4.

We keep hearing the Jets' will look CB - and Asante Samuel is the premier guy but will demand big bucks. So will nate Clements, so do we resign Hank Poteat (either way I say yes) or do we look at a Ricky Manning Jr?

Anthony Clements is a FA OT and he did well for us. Can we resign him? Do we look for a better run blocker, like the under-achiever Leonard Davis?

There are RB's out there, but a couple of potenatial sleepers in FA are Ladell Betts and James Mungro (if he's back 100%).

    Just some random FA thoughts...guys...?

That's great, I hope he did sign the paper - because all of the FA sights list him as a UFA.

The Jets do need a cornerback though.

I still hope the Jets #1 goal is a defensive tackle.

Agreed...in an ideal world, the Jets would sign Samuel (and Thomas), and be able to devote their entire draft to getting a DT, and two roadgraders at G(who could back up Mangold at C), and RT to punch up the running game.

Then the Jets could look at FB/HB, and the best available talent at S (Coleman could be upgraded), sub-4.3 wide out to stretch the field, and maybe another QB prospect.

He signed mid-season to a very decent contract.

DB is so over rated. I'll say it again, DT is the way to go, and a pass rush. Corners always reap the rewards of a solid pass rush by making the Qb throw BEFORE HE WANTS TO! Thomas would be much better if we had a hog in the middle, as well as Vilma being able to make plays. The Pats had troy brown look good because of their solid D-line. Case in point, look how good Aaron Beasley was with Jax, and what a turd he was when he came here. Some will argue scheme, but pass rush is key.

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (AP) -- The New York Jets signed defensive end-linebacker Bryan Thomas to a contract extension Friday.

Thomas, the Jets' first-round pick out of UAB in 2002, is on pace for his best season. He has a career-high five sacks, including two last Sunday against Houston, and is sixth on the team with 58 tackles. Thomas is splitting time at defensive end and linebacker after primarily playing on the line his first few seasons.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed. A call to Thomas' agent, Brian Mackler, wasn't immediately returned.

"I've enjoyed my time being a Jet, and I am excited about the present and future of this team," Thomas said in a statement. "This is where I started my career and I am grateful that the Jets believe in me."

Thomas, who has 11 1/2 NFL sacks, was the 22nd overall pick after breaking the Conference USA record with 35 sacks.

"We're pleased that Bryan Thomas is going to remain a Jet," general manager Mike Tannenbaum said in a statement. "He has worked very hard and developed in our program."

I think this is the 1st time I can say that GG didn't do his homework on starting a thread, Thomas signed his deal right before the Green Bay game, a move I was very skeptical of. It happens to the best of em'...

Mungro is just not an option healthy or not. We have to stop taking backups that are supposed to be good if given the opportunity (Barlow, Blaylock). That is my main concern with Turner..I dont think its really that hard to come in after LT has worn down a defense and pick up some yards.

Hey, if the key news sources list guys as FA's...that's my only source.

    I love Mungro...

we need BT and I would try to sign ADALIUS THOMAS! If we could get NATE CLEMENTS, that would greatly improve our defense. I would resign ANTHONY CLEMENT too. IMO our OGs need to be bigger & better to improve the run game. JUSTIN SMITH is a very good player and I'd try to get him,. I want MICHAEL TURNER at RB or Draft MICHAEL BUSH. We must get a BIG, fast bruiser! Boss Bailey is always hurt and has NOT lived up to his hype. He has very skinny legs! I want KEITH TRAYLOR on the JETS!

James Mungro would have started this year if he didn't get hurt. He is better than any other running back we have on our roster.

terdell sands from oakland. ppl overlook guys on their d because the team sucked. but their defense wasnt the problem....if their offense could score 17-20 points a game, they wouldnt be picking first. KT is getting up there in age, so if they give him a go i would hope at most they offer 2 years.

at RT, if we dont resign clement, i would def give (cant remember his first name) washington (the RT) from (again)oakland. hes a monster who will add beef to the running game, and give chad a few seconds from the right side. clement should be back reguardless since we need depth on the OL....that is unless they have other ways to add depth there.

betts or mungro? we need help at RB, not just bodies. if they dont make a push for turner, then the best bet is going through the draft for talent. hopefully we dont take kenny irons though. hes a small back (we already have one of those). i know that unless ML is there at 26 (improbable) we wont be taking a RB till at least rd 2....in which case bush isnt a bad option. i also hope to see brian leonard get drafted. askew is shit as a fb, and BL can add not only depth, but dimension to our running game. hes an alstott type without the fumbles and can catch.
